With millions of sales on Steam alone, Poppy Playtime has emerged as one of the most successful indie horror games of the 2020s. To date, it has received four episodic chapters, several spin-off titles, and an ever-growing lineup of merchandise, with a live-action film adaptation being in the works as well. Developer-publisher Mob Entertainment has also been open to crossovers, having launched multiple collaborative projects in recent years.

Someone decides that Minecraft could do with a dose of horror, so they mod the game, drawing inspiration from an unlikely indie title.

Poppy Playtime Minecraft Add-On Shadow Dropped

Continuing this trend, the Missouri-based studio has now teamed up with Dutch developer Spark Universe on a new Minecraft add-on, which was shadow dropped on October 14. Called Huggy and Friends, the pack expands the evergreen sandbox game with five Poppy Playtime monsters: Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, CatNap, The Doctor, and Doey the Doughman. It can be purchased for 990 Minecoins, which comes out to just under $5.99, the current price of a 960+60 Minecoin pack.

Minecraft's Poppy Playtime Monsters Aren't Just Skins

Mob Entertainment commemorated the add-on's release with a quirky cinematic launch trailer featuring two Minecraft adventurers being chased by Poppy Playtime's toy monstrosities. These arrivals aren't just skins, but were implemented in the form of new mobs with unique AI and encounter loops. Huggy Wuggy relentlessly chases players, Mommy Long Legs engages them in twisted games, and CatNap executes its signature dreamlike intrusions. Similarly, The Doctor surveils players, while Doey the Doughman exhibits unnerving mood swings, frequently shifting between friend and foe.

The unsettling playground of Huggy and Friends thus promises to turn Minecraft into a bona fide survival horror experience. Players who manage to survive its many dangers will be rewarded with GrabPack hands, which unlock a wide variety of powerful abilities, including leaping, grappling, burning, and shocking. Accompanying this release are five Persona items, wearable cosmetics inspired by Poppy Playtime characters: GrabPack, Huggy Wuggy Head, Kissy Missy Head, DogDay Pajamas, and CatNap Pajamas.

The newly debuted add-on was designed to marry the "open-ended fun" that Minecraft is known for with Poppy Playtime's signature suspense, Spark Universe Head of Marketplace Benjamin Grindrod said in a prepared statement. Huggy and Friends can be purchased via the Minecraft Marketplace, meaning it is compatible with the Bedrock Edition of the game on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.
