Pokemon TCG Pocket fans have been quick to point out a potential new "nasty" combo in the upcoming Wisdom of Sea and Sky set, and it looks just as annoying as DarkTina on paper. If the predicted synergy plays out as expected, Pokemon TCG Pocket's metagame could be headed for a major shift.

For the past four expansions, Giratina EX and Darktina EX have dominated Pokemon TCG Pocket. And thanks to their overpowered synergy, many fans have called them the most annoying combo in the game. However, a new contender may be on the horizon, as it seems the upcoming A4 set may introduce a potentially toxic synergy, one that can take down even the strongest Pokemon in a single turn.

One Fan-Favorite Pokemon TCG Pocket Wisdom of Sea and Sky Card is Dead on Arrival

Pokemon TCG Pocket will shortly release its Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion, and while Gen 2 hype is very high, one Pokemon card is not great.

The foreseen nasty combo involves the Stage 1 Pokemon Xatu and the Supporter Will, both from Pokemon TCG Pocket's Wisdom of Sea and Sky set, whose contents were recently leaked. For two Energy and one successful coin flip, Xatu sets the enemy's Active Pokemon HP to 10. Will, on the other hand, guarantees a heads on the player's next coin flip attempt, effectively ensuring Xatu's ability triggers. When Xatu is active and Will is in hand, there's little the opponent can do to avoid losing most of their HP, which should be devastating.

Pokemon TCG Pocket's Xatu-Will Combo Explained

  • Xatu: Drops the enemy's HP to 10 after a successful coin flip
  • Will: Guarantees that the next coin flip is going to land heads

The problem with Xatu is that it can't deal damage. So even after its effect is triggered with the help of Will, the player still needs a way to finish off the 10-HP enemy. On paper, this can be solved with several cards, including Pokemon TCG Pocket's go-to Tool Rocky Helmet and the classic sniper Pokemon Greninja. Rocky Helmet deals 20 damage to the attacker whenever they hit Xatu, effectively knocking them out. Greninja, meanwhile, can snipe 20 damage from the Bench, making it another reliable way to finish the job.

Many fans also believe that Xatu will shine in a deck alongside the upcoming Fire-type Pokemon Typhlosion. This new card lets the player apply the Burned Special Condition to the enemy once per turn, dealing 20 passive damage until they flip a coin that lands heads. In this setup, Typhlosion stays on the Bench while Xatu takes the Active Spot. Before Xatu drops the enemy's HP to 10, Typhlosion applies Burned, ensuring a knockout in the same turn.

Besides the Xatu-Will combo, fans suggest Pokemon TCG Pocket's new Supporter Will could also push Tinkaton EX into the meta. A successful coin flip boosts Tinkaton EX's damage by 80, bringing it up to a hefty 160. There's also the new Steel Apron Pokemon Tool, which is expected to pair well with the Steel-type EX because it reduces the damage it takes and protectes it against all Special Conditions. Whether these predicted combos and nasty synergies will shake up the metagame remains to be seen, but with the new set right around the corner, the wait won't be long.
