Summary

  • Pokemon TCG Pocket has a way fans can avoid playing against EX card decks.
  • Players have to use the password NOEX when setting up private battles.
  • Players hope that this workaround becomes an official feature at some point down the road.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket players have a secret way of seeking out opponents who don't use overpowered EX cards in their decks. While the fun opponent search trick in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket isn't foolproof, it should provide players with some head-to-head matches against players looking to mix up their game.

Putting a mobile game spin on the classic Pokemon Trading Card game that debuted in the United States in 1998, Pokemon TCG Pocket was released on October 30, 2024. The mobile game follows several standard rules of the classic trading card game but whittles the deck size down from 60 to 20 as players compete to be the first to earn three points by knocking out each other's Pokemon.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Has Already Made a Ridiculous Amount of Money

Recent revenue estimates suggest Pokemon TCG Pocket has made a remarkable amount of money during the app's first month after launch.

While beating most Pokemon in the game earns a player a single point, Pokemon TCG Pocket EX Cards are worth two points for each taken down, with the trade-off that they tend to be exceptionally powerful. However, one Pokemon fan has shared a way to skirt other players who rely on using EX cards to dominate PvP matches. As shared on Twitter by user @PokeGirlLauren, setting up a Private Match using the Versus button in the Battle tab and entering the password NOEX allows players to seek out matches specifically against opponents who avoid using EX cards.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Want Battles Free of EX Cards

There are some caveats to using this trick, though. Private battles in Pokemon TCG Pocket don't earn the player any experience points or other rewards, the way that the Random Match option does. Additionally, the trick is really a community-wide exploit of the Private Battle function, which is designed to let friends set a password for a room so they can battle their decks against each other. Setting the private room password to NOEX is simply a trend that many players have undertaken to mix up the types of decks they're likely to compete against, and there's nothing in place to stop griefers from entering the NOEX password and intentionally using EX Pokemon against underpowered opponents. Some people responding to the post on Twitter have noted they have both battled against and admitted to using their own EX Pikachu Decks while in NOEX private battles.

While the method doesn't exactly guarantee a battle free from EX cards, the trend could signal the start of a movement in the mobile game. If enough people show interest in PvP matches with different sets of rules, it's possible the developers of the game may incorporate a Pokemon TCG Pocket feature that will allow them to do that without all the workaround.
