Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket has launched a New Year Event to kick off 2025, offering players a shot at a brand-new promo card, a holiday-themed backdrop, and more. The special event in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket will only be around for a week, and players will want to log in every day in order to claim all of its bonuses.
Pokemon TCG Pocket was announced in February 2024 and, after much anticipation from the Pokemon community, finally made its way to mobile devices on October 30. Following a busy December that saw the release of new premium rewards, battle and Wonder Pick events, and the debut of its fourth pack of cards, the mobile card battler is already offering players its first set of new rewards for January.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Comes Out at Perfect Time for DeNA
Mobile game developer DeNA sees a significant boost for the company following the highly successful launch of Pokemon TCG Pocket.
The initial reward players will receive when they first log in is an event-exclusive Pikachu promo card. With 60 HP and a gnaw attack that deals out 20 base damage for the cost of a single Lightning energy, this card functions exactly like the base Pikachu card contained in the Pokemon TCG Pocket Genetic Apex catalog. However, unlike that card, which utilized the classic chubby Pikachu imagery from the physical trading card game's original series, this promo card features modernized artwork showing Pikachu leaping towards the player, surrounded by Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Eevee.
Pokemon TCG Pocket 2025 New Year Event Period

There are plenty of other rewards players can claim during the New Year Event. Players who log in for four of the seven days during the event will also receive a New Year's Frame backdrop that features the faces of Bulbasaur, Charmander, Pikachu, and Squirtle lit up in the sky as fireworks of their corresponding energy colors. Logging in every day during the event will net players 12 Wonder Hourglasses for making more Wonder Picks in Pokemon TCG Pocket. Players can also speed up their ability to open a new pack by a full 24 hours by collecting 100 cards and using pack stamina to open five Mythical Island packs. Each of these activities will grant players a dozen Pack Hourglasses apiece.
There are also many ways that players can claim packs from the Pokemon TCG Pocket Mythical Island mini-set. Players can claim their first pack after participating in one battle of any kind and a second pack after playing through three battles. A third pack is claimable by players who complete five Wonder Picks during the event period, and a fourth can be claimed by sending thanks to other players five times, which can be done after a Wonder Pick or a battle against another player.
