Misty rose to the top of TCG Pocket’s meta with the Mythical Island expansion when the Greninja & Gyarados ex emerged. But she remained one of the most prominent Supporters even after that, thanks to other Water-type decks that gained popularity. While nearly all other dominant Supporters were counterbalanced by new cards, such as Cyrus balancing out Leaf, Misty held onto her throne and continued to elevate the Water archetype.

As pointed out by fans on Reddit, Team Rocket Grunt’s ability to discard the opponent’s accumulated Energy poses a threat to Misty’s meta. The new Supporter card allows the player to flip coins until they get tails, and for each heads they obtain, they discard one Energy from the defending Pokemon. Therefore, Team Rocket Grunt could single-handedly disrupt the opponent’s ramp strategy, negating Misty’s effect.
Team Rocket Grunt Might End Misty’s Reign in TCG Pocket
The interesting thing about Team Rocket Grunt is that it shuts down all Energy-generation strategies, not just Misty’s. Veteran fans likely know that the game’s meta has favored ramp strategies relying on energy-producing Pokemon such as Leafeon ex. So, this new Supporter card has the potential to cause a significant shift in the metagame, pushing players to adopt new strategies. That wouldn’t be the first time a Supporter card reshapes the meta. Previously, Cyrus was considered an overpowered character because he created massive volatility in PvP upon his release.
It’s too early to determine whether Team Rocket Grunt or any other new card from Shining Revelry will impact PvP.
