Pokemon TCG Pocket fans are having fun with the "New Art Coming Soon" placeholder message on Lugia EX and Ho-Oh EX. Pokemon TCG Pocket players are doing everything from making jokes to offering their own questionable art choices to serve as a replacements for the missing artwork.

Pokemon TCG Pocket experienced controversy recently when extreme similarities were discovered between the game's Ho-Oh EX artwork and a Pokemon fan's fanart. Pokemon TCG Pocket issued an official response to the matter, claiming that the incorrect materials had been supplied "as official materials" to the illustrator responsible for the images, and pulled the art present on both Ho-Oh and Lugia as a result. Replacing the artwork isn't something that can be accomplished overnight, but as a result, players have been looking at a placeholder message for a couple of days.

While Pokemon fans wait for the official artwork replacements to arrive, they're having some fun with the situation. Players have been sharing jokes and memes making fun of the Pokemon TCG placeholder message, like one fan sharing their "favorite scene in the Indigo League," where Ash and Pikachu look up at a Ho-Oh flying overhead, but in this version, the bird has been replaced by the placeholder text. Another fan shared a meme of Squidward looking at Patrick and Spongebob running by holding the placeholder cards, expressing that they were feeling a sense of FOMO at not being part of the experience, as they hadn't pulled those cards. Another depicted an iconic Yu-Gi-Oh scene, depicting Seto Kaiba being blasted away by Yugi's Ho-Oh placeholder card. Others have simply expressed shock at returning to the subreddit to find that so many users are spamming messages about the placeholders.

Pokemon Fans Muse About Replacement Art

While it's likely that the eventual art that will appear on these cards will be very nice to look at, that hasn't stopped players from sharing jokes about what it could be like. One fan joked that the new Ho-Oh art had been revealed to be a picture of a bucket of KFC chicken. Some have also shared goofy doodles showing what they'd like for the replacement Ho-Oh art to be.

Thankfully, the community seems to be taking the situation in stride, and some have praised the developer for taking quick action to remove the plagiarized Pokemon TCG card art. While this should ideally never happen, at the very least, players are making some fun memories while they wait for what happens next.
