Pokemon TCG Pocket's new Ultra Beast Kartana is expected to counter the long-lasting Darkrai ex meta. Since the recent trailer for Extradimensional Crisis dropped, fans have been theorizing about the set's possible winners and losers. These speculations also include projections about Pokemon TCG Pocket's metagame shifts.
May turned out to be an extraordinary month for DeNA's digital trading card game. It started with Pokemon TCG Pocket's Celestial Guardians set and is set to end with Ultra Beasts' release. So far, the A3 expansion's Pokemon have mostly been unable to climb the PvP ladder, though its Trainer Cards have been significantly impactful. One example is the Item Card Rare Candy, which is nowadays as popular are Poke Ball and Professor's Research. The A3a mini-set, on the other hand, seems packed with unique Pokemon that could alter the meta.
Pokemon TCG Pocket's Ultra Beast Cards Hide Quirky Secret
Pokemon TCG Pocket fans spot an unexpected detail about the new Ultra Beast cards that is causing a wave of wild fan theories.
As several fans have pointed out, Kartana has immense potential to counter Darkrai ex. For those uninitiated, Darkrai ex has been dominating Pokemon TCG Pocket's PvP for the past four expansions. So, it's no surprise that many fans are excited to finally see a potential counter to this notoriously strong Pokemon. What makes Kartana a potent counter is its typing, synergy, and low energy requirement. With just one Grass Energy, Kartana deals 40 damage, which is boosted to 60 against the Grass-weak Darkrai ex.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Fans Have High Hopes for Kartana
The Ultra Beast has already shown powerful synergies with some other potent Grass cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket. For instance, many believe that Kartana is a perfect fit for the already promising Decidueye ex decks. There are also two key Trainer Cards that can boost Kartana's performance in any deck shell: Leaf Cape, which gives it +30 HP, and Erika, which heals 50 damage from it. If these synergies perform even half as well in practice as they seem to do on paper, Kartana could very well put an end to Darkrai ex's reign for good.
Kartana aside, Guzzlord ex has also gained attention for its unique passive ability. Its Grindcore attack comes with an energy-removal effect that many believe could make it the next meta-defining card in Pokemon TCG Pocket. For context, the current meta is partly dominated by Giratina ex, a close ally of Darkrai ex. Giratina ex stands out for its ability to quickly build up power on the Bench. Guzzlord ex's energy-removal could disrupt that strategy, potentially ending Giratina’s reign. If that happens, Kartana and Guzzlord ex together could push two of the game's most feared Pokemon out of the meta for good.
