Rumors suggest that Pokemon TCG Pocket's next major expansion will start the B series, which could potentially make A-series cards illegal in ranked mode. Since its launch in October 2024, Pokemon TCG Pocket has released four primary booster packs: A1, A2, A3, and A4.
Minisets, which usually follow flagship expansions, are also code-named with a similar formula, using an added lowercase "a" or "b" at the end. For example, Pokemon TCG Pocket's previous supplemental set, Eevee Grove, was titled A3b, indicating it was the second small release within the Celestial Guardians (A3) era.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Could Soon Enter the B-Series Era
New details about Pokemon TCG Pocket's upcoming set have been spotted by UniteVids on Twitter, suggesting that A4a and A4b could be the last booster packs of the A-series era. According to the creator, the image used on the official webpage to promote the expansion has the word “B1” in its title. This can be taken as a sign that the soon-to-launch main set will end the A-series era and begin a new metagame in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
Typically, when a game like Pokemon TCG Pocket introduces a new card series, some or all of the previous series are banned in specific PvP modes. The significance of the next set being B1 is that it may render all or most meta cards from A1 to A4 useless in ranked mode. It's also possible that the game adds separate competitive leagues for each series. However, it's unlikely that DeNA will allow fans to combine cards from both series in a single deck with no restrictions.
The theory makes sense because Pokemon TCG Pocket's future release is confirmed to introduce Mega Evolutions. These powerful creatures have much higher ATK and HP stats, making them somewhat overpowered compared to regular cards. So, it seems plausible for the developer to limit competitive modes to the latest expansion and label it B1 to mark the change.
Fans should keep in mind that all of this is speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt. The only confirmed detail is that Pokemon TCG Pocket's upcoming major booster pack will launch in the fall and will be the first to feature Mega-evolved Pokemon. Beyond that, everything else is based on fan theories, and players will need to wait for DeNA to release more information to know whether the game is truly entering the B1 era. While the exact release date of the new set hasn't been officially announced, it is expected to arrive around October, possibly in time for the game's first anniversary.
