Summary

  • A Pokemon TCG collector opened six months' worth of saved products all at once.
  • The collector found gold and full-art rarities across different languages.
  • Pokemon TCG continues to be popular with fans.

A Pokemon TCG fan who saved sealed TCG products for six months opened them all in one day. The Pokemon TCG has been a staple of the Pokemon franchise since its first base set was released back in 1999. Later in 2000, a Game Boy Color game was released and taught many young children how to play the popular card game. Then in 2004, the first Pokemon World Championships featured the TCG before the competitive Pokemon video game scene was a thing. Today, collectors look far and wide for a variety of cards, from old printings to newer, more coveted full-art and golden cards.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game surged once more in popularity around 2020 when most people were looking for hobbies to pass the time during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, YouTubers and TikTokers sparked further interest in the hobby once more, with Logan Paul’s obsession with Pokemon going viral at the time. Pokemon TCG fans have cleaned out shelves during the past few years, and only recently have supplies returned to a stable quantity. Collectors mostly look for secret rares, additional “secret” cards added to the end of each set number, along with gold cards, and highly detailed full-art illustration rares based on their favorite creatures.

A Pokemon fan found those kinds of rarities and much more in a collection of sealed products they saved up for six months. The TCG collector showed off what was opened up in a Reddit post that went viral. "I'm not shaking right now, but opening everything was quite fun,” said Reddit user Schillarob in their post displaying the collection. Pictured in the post was a German Elite Trainer Box from the popular Pokemon TCG set Surging Sparks. Various other boxed products were opened, like three ETBs of Twilight Masquerade, a box of the 151 set, a Zapdos EX box from 151, and more.

The collector was pleased to find many illustration rares, gold cards, shiny cards, and more. Pictured in the Reddit post was a golden rare Hisiuian Samurott VSTAR from Astral Radiance and a golden Quaquaval EX from the Paldea Evovled set. The Pokemon fan opened products in a variety of languages, which rewarded them with some full-art trainer cards, among others, in German, English, and Japanese. The gold and full-art rarities of Pokemon cards are similar to the types of rarities found in TCG Pocket, the latest mobile TCG game to garner wide popularity.

Pokemon TCG Pocket has been out for around two months now. The digital TCG game allows fans to open two packs a day for free from unique sets exclusive to the app. Pokemon TCG Pocket came out at a perfect time for developer DeNA, who worked along with Creatures Inc. To develop the game. The app’s release marked a major turnaround for the mobile app developer and has raked in millions of dollars in revenue. Pokemon TCG is still a driving force of the Pokemon franchise and continues to be popular despite its almost 30-year age.
