The ongoing Pokemon TCG Championships feature some of the best players in the competitive scene looking to become world champion.
The 2024 Pokemon World Championships is taking place in Honolulu, Hawaii, and features some of the best players battling it out in a variety of Pokemon games, including the mainline games, Pokemon TCG, and even Pokemon GO. The event teased various reveals and discussions about all things Pokemon, as The Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara teased that Sunday's closing ceremonies would feature "special news" about the Pokemon franchise. In regard to the Pokemon TCG side, four new illustration cards were revealed for the Paradise Dragona expansion.
Pokemon World Championships TCG Player Disqualified
A competitor in the TCG portion of the Pokemon World Championships was disqualified from the tournament, connected to a cheating incident.
As reported by PokeBeach, these are four new ex Illustration rare cards that will be a part of the Paradise Dragona Pokemon TCG set. The four Pokemon represented in these illustrations are the double dragon twins Latios and Latios, along with Exeggcute and Alolan Exeggutor. Of the four newly revealed cards, Latias and Alolan Exeggcutor are ex cards, with the Latios and Latias cards being connecting cards that form a bigger picture.

The Paradise Dragona set will also feature cards of other popular Pokemon, such as Duraludon and its evolved form Archaludon, Trapinch and its final evolution Flygon, and many others. Pokebeach also provided fans with English translations of these upcoming cards and their abilities. The Paradise Dragona set will be released in Japan first on September 13, while the English cards will likely be a part of the Surging Sparks set in November.
The future of Pokemon seems pretty bright, between the various trading card game expansions, spin-offs, anime, and new games in the works. While Ishihara did comment on the Pokemon franchise getting big updates at the end of the World Championships, it's unclear if he was referring to the mainline games or spin-offs like Pokemon GO. The next entry in the long-running franchise is 2025's Pokemon Legends Z-A, which was previously revealed during a Pokemon Presents showcase in February. This game sees players revisiting the Kalos Region and Lumiose City from Pokemon X and Y, though no information aside from its initial teaser trailer has been revealed at this time.
