Pokemon Trading Card Game has confirmed the release of Black Bolt and White Flare in English. This will be the fifth Pokemon TCG special expansion released in English in the Scarlet and Violet era, featuring old acquaintances of Pokemon fans.

The first Pokemon TCG special set released in the Gen 9 cycle was 151, which came out in September 2023 and introduced 207 cards. Paldean Fates hit the shelves in January 2024 with 245 new cards, including the popular Charizard ex shiny rare print, while Shrouded Fable came out in August of the same year, introducing 99 cards. Prismatic Evolutions was released in January this year and brought 180 new cards, including new Eevee cards for fans to collect. This time, Pokemon TCG has shared some good news by revealing the fifth special set.

Pokemon TCG has confirmed the English release of Black Bolt and White Flare on July 18. Each set will have over 170 cards released as a single expansion focusing on the 156 Pokemon of Unova. Black Bolt will have 65 cards with rare illustrations, more than five with rare special illustrations, and more than five Pokemon ex, including Zekrom and Meloetta. White Flare, meanwhile, will have 70 rare illustrations, more than five rare special illustrations, and five ex cards, including Reshiram and Keldeo. The sets will also include regular and special rare variants of cards from the Unova Legendaries Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Confirms Release of Black Bolt and White Flare in English

Pokemon fans can purchase on July 18 a Black Bolt or White Flare Elite Trainer Box with Zekrom or Reshiram on the cover. The box includes nine packs of the respective set, a promo card with a rare illustration of Thundurus (Black Bolt) or Tornadus (White Flare), and various accessories. On the same day, Binder Collections, a Unova Poster Collection, and mini-tins will be available. On August 1, fans can buy a Tech Sticker Collection of Black Bolt or White Flare and a Unova Victini Illustration Collection, while on August 22, the Booster Bundle will be released with six boosters of each set.

Black Bolt and White Flare arrives for Pokemon fans in Japan on June 6 and will be the next release after The Glory of Team Rocket, a set centered on famous villains. For fans in the West, the Unova-focused expansion will come after Destined Rivals, a Pokemon TCG set that arrives on May 30 with over 240 new cards, including ex variants of popular monsters such as Cynthia's Garchomp and Ethan's Ho-Oh.
