Pokemon Trading Card Game fans have an early chance to try out all the new cards from Ascended Heroes, playable now through Pokemon TCG Live. The first Pokemon expansion of 2026 is already kicking off the year with a huge release, bringing a plethora of highly sought-after cards to the game. Ascended Heroes adds more than 200 new cards to the Pokemon TCG, boasting a mixture of both reprints of fan-favorite cards and plenty of powerful new Pokemon. The newest set even looks to break some big records for the beloved TCG.

The Pokemon Company has confirmed that, not only is Ascended Heroes one of the most highly-anticipated recent sets, it is also the game's biggest. The 295 different cards included in Ascended Heroes smash the record for the largest Pokemon TCG set ever released, with the previous record being held by Fusion Strike. Ascended Heroes' new cards are also expected to make a major impact in the TCG, with new cards like Mega Feraligatr ex poised to be powerful competitive options. Fans on Pokemon TCG Live are now getting the chance to test out the new set, far ahead of tournament play.

Pokemon TCG Live Players Can Try Out Ascended Heroes Early

Pokemon TCG Live has officially made Ascended Heroes available to play in the digital game, more than a month ahead of its paper legality. A recent update to the online version of the beloved TCG has added all the cards from Pokemon's newest set, with players immediately able to use Ascended Heroes cards in both casual and ranked matches within TCG Live. The in-game shop includes multiple bundles for the expansion, including ones based both on the newly-released Sticker Collections and Ascended Heroes' upcoming Elite Trainer Box. The change significantly pre-dates the scheduled date for Ascended Heroes to become playable in the physical card game, currently planned for March 6.

The early playability for Ascended Heroes on Pokemon TCG Live gives fans the chance to try out some powerful new cards. The previously-mentioned Mega Feraligatr ex was also joined by the addition of multiple other Legends: Z-A Mega Pokemon, including Mega Hawlucha and Mega Dragonite. The Pokemon TCG expansion also comes with plenty of new Supporter cards, like Canari giving a powerful search effect to Electric decks and Anthea & Concordia offering a huge Prize boost to N's Pokemon-themed decks. Pokemon TCG Live's big new release, however, joins some major woes for Ascended Heroes' physical release.

Ascended Heroes' Physical Release Is Already Having Issues

The recent release of the first physical product for Ascended Heroes came alongside some disappointing news. The Pokemon Company revealed a major delay for the Erika & Larry Collections for Ascended Heroes, originally scheduled to launch alongside the Sticker Collections. The launch of the Gym Leader-themed products was pushed back three weeks from its previous release date, not debuting until February 20 alongside the Elite Trainer Boxes for Ascended Heroes. The delay was coupled with the new date for Ascended Heroes to become tournament-legal, now forcing fans to wait even longer to try out the newest cards at in-person tournaments.

The long wait for Ascended Heroes to become tournament-legal will push the set not far from Pokemon's big Spring release. March 27 will bring the release of Pokemon's second new set of the year, with Perfect Order set to be the third main expansion of the Mega Evolution era. The set's Japanese equivalent in Nihil Zero has already given fans a sneak peek at a multitude of new cards coming to the Pokemon TCG, including the first card for Mega Zygarde and a powerful new Meowth ex. The Pokemon TCG looks to be kicking off the franchise's 30th anniversary with a bang, debuting plenty of exciting expansions.
