An eagle-eyed NeoGAF user reveals that two Pokemon  names, Solgaleo and Lunaala, have been trademarked, prompting speculation that they will be the mascots for Pokemon Sun  and Moon.

With every new upcoming Pokemon  game, there's always speculation over what new monsters will be added to the franchise's ever-expanding Pokemon  list. Pokemon Sun  and Pokemon Moon  was officially announced two months ago, but aside from teasing the existence of 10 new mysterious Pokemon and the reveal of the mythical Magearna, Nintendo have kept a relatively tight lid on what new monsters gamers can expect. But if the report from an eagle-eyed NeoGAF user is to be believed, we may have a new clue into a couple of new legendary Pokemon.

NeoGAF user Watch Da Birdie uncovered a couple of new trademarks pertaining to what is believed to be the names of two new Pokemon Sun  and Pokemon Moon creatures: Solgaleo and Lunaala. Judging by the names, it appears that they correspond to the Sun and Moon theme, with Solgaleo being the likely mascot for Pokemon Sun and Lunaala being the mascot for Pokemon Moon. Based on the "leo" at the end of Solgaleo, this suggests that the new creatures may also be lion-themed, potentially making them the first legendary lion Pokemon  since Entei.

While it's great to see that Nintendo are still creating new and original Pokemon, these new trademarked names should be taken with a grain of salt. Pokemon  news site Serebii reported that the trademarks weren't registered by Nintendo, Game Freak, or the Pokemon Company, but were rather listed under the name Yusuke Inui. While the report further states that Yusuke is apparently an IP lawyer in Japan, there's a possibility that those Pokemon  name trademarks were registered via proxy.

It's not unheard of for big companies to register trademarks using other aliases in an attempt to prevent secrets from being revealed, and given the anticipation for Pokemon Sun  and Moon, there's no doubt that Nintendo is pulling out all stops to prevent any leaks. Based on what little we do know about Pokemon Sun  and Moon, and   its rumored tropical setting, the big N has definitely done a great job in keeping its cards close to its chest.

If Solgaleo and Lunaala do indeed turn out to be the new legendary mascots   for Sun  and Moon, perhaps we may need to look into updating our list of the most unique Pokemon.

Pokemon Sun and Moon are scheduled for launch this holiday season, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.
