Summary
- Water trainers excel at leveraging type strengths like fire and ground but must mitigate vulnerabilities to lightning and grass.
- Not all water specialists reach elite status, with Misty, Wallace, and Crasher Wake facing unique challenges.
- Kofu emerges as the strongest Water-type trainer with a level 81 Crabominable and expert battle strategies.
Much like the strongest fire-type Pokemon trainers, a long list of Water-type experts and specialists populate the many regions of the Pokemon world. Water experts are usually (but not always) the leaders of Pokemon battling facilities such as gyms and the Elite Four, with water trainers such as Wallace venturing higher to league champion status.
Employing the powers of water in battle requires great skill, with the typing easily drowning out others, such as fire and ground, which it is strong against. However, while powerful, water is susceptible to lightning and grass, making a master of water an expert at mitigating against type weaknesses.

The infamous Cerulean City gym leader, Misty, is easily among the best Water-type trainers in Pokemon. While her abilities still pale compared to some other Water-type trainers, due to having lower-level Pokemon and a lack of experience as a trainer, her Pokemon team is by no means weak. Her strongest team consists of a level 60 Milotic and Starmie, as well as a level 56 Lapras, alongside other tough Pokemon.
She is easily one of the best Water-type trainers in Pokemon's the Kanto region, but she lacks the star quality of other Water-type trainers who are recognized beyond the regional level.

Wallace, once the gym leader of the Sootopolis City gym, quickly progressed through the ranks to stardom, becoming the champion of the Hoenn Pokemon League. He is also known for his characteristic Milotic, which is his signature Pokemon.
While Wallace deserves to be referred to as the strongest Water-type trainer due to his champion status, his Pokemon fail to surpass the high-level 50s, resulting in him falling shy of other trainers.
