A Pokemon fan has designed Ghost-type variants for Generation 1 Pokemon Slowpoke and its evolutions, Slowbro and Slowking. A dual Water/Psychic-type, Slowpoke has been regularly featured in Pokemon media since the Generation 1 games, making multiple appearances in the anime and video games.
Slowpoke was one of the first Pokemon that could evolve into two completely separate forms. Starting with Generation 2, Pokemon players could either evolve their Slowpoke into a Slowbro by reaching level 37, or they could evolve it into a Slowking by trading a Slowpoke that's holding the King's Rock item. Both Slowking and Slowbro are Water/Psychic-type Pokemon, but their appearances vary greatly. More recently, a Galarian form for Slowpoke was introduced that could evolve into Galarian variants of Slowbro and Slowking, both of which are Poison/Psychic-types. And on top of all that, there's also Mega Slowbro to take into account.
Game Freak and The Pokemon Company like to dream up new looks for Slowpoke and its evolution line, and so do the fans. Reddit user the_elastic_band has shared their designs for a Ghost-type Slowpoke evolution line. The Ghost-type Slowpoke designed by the_elastic_band looks plenty creepy by itself, but its evolutions are even more disturbing.
A key element to Slowpoke's evolutions are that they incorporate Shellder shells onto their bodies. In the case of Slowbro, the shell attaches to Slowpoke's tail and then changes form. In the case of Slowking, the shell turns into crown-like headgear. With these Ghost-type variants, Shellder isn't used in the designs at all, but rather the Generation 1 fossil Pokemon Kabuto and Omanyte take its place.
With this Ghost/Rock-type Slowbro variant, Omanyte has seemingly attached itself to Slowpoke's tail, but it may be a bit more sinister. Omanyte's body is completely gone, and only the shell remains, which could be an indication that the Omanyte that inhabited the shell has effectively been killed. In the case of Kabuto and Slowking, the Kabuto has attached itself to the top of the Slowpoke's head, and depending on how one interprets the drawing, it's either taking over the body parasite-style, or its being used as a helmet. Either way, it gives the creature glowing red eyes that would be terrifying to see in the wild.
Fans reacted enthusiastically to these designs, with the Reddit post earning over 22,000 upvotes at the time of this writing. While many used the comment section to praise the designs, others lamented that there has yet to be any Ghost/Rock-type Pokemon in the series yet, but perhaps the Generation 10 Pokemon games will help fill the gap.
