Summary
- Catch Shiny Rayquaza in Five-Star Tera Raid Dens until Jan 5.
- Mass Outbreak with Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew now live.
- Shiny Rayquaza vulnerable to strong Fairy Pokemon like Sylveon.
On December 19, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launched a long-awaited battle against Shiny Rayquaza in Five-Star Tera Raid dens throughout Paldea. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have until January 5 to face off against and capture the legendary Shiny Rayquaza should they prove victorious.
Known as the Sky High Pokemon, Rayquaza is the box-art Legendary monster of Pokemon Emerald. As the mediator of the Hoenn region's conflict between Groudon and Kyogre, Rayquaza is a Dragon and Flying Pokemon with a long green body, golden eyes, and powerful attacks that can overwhelm most foes. Compared to its normally emerald hues, the Shiny variant of Rayquaza has black scales instead. Throughout November and December, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet released a series of Five-Star Tera Raids against critters like Azumarill and Bellibolt to prepare players for the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid.
Although a non-Shiny Rayquaza is obtainable in Pokemon Scarlet and Viole t, collectors now have a few weeks to catch Rayquaza's dark-scaled version. The Shiny Rayquaza Five-Star Tera Raid battle in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is now underway, and concludes on Sunday, January 5, at 6:59 PM Eastern. Unlike past Tera Raid battles, the current Shiny Rayquaza event has not announced a second run at the time of writing, so Pokemon trainers will have just over two weeks to face the Sky High Pokemon. Alongside the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid, a Mass Outbreak event featuring Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew is now live. Cetoddle can be found throughout Paldea, whereas Carbink and Axew are respectively located in Kitakami and the Terarium. As for the Tera Raid battle against Shiny Rayquaza, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players are only allowed to catch one of them per save file, but it can be challenged multiple times for additional drops.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Launch Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid and Mass Outbreak Events
- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players can now catch Shiny Rayquaza in Five-Star Tera Raid Dens.
- A Mass Outbreak featuring Cetoddle, Carbink, and Axew is now live.
- Both the Mass Outbreak and Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid are available until January 5.
- Shiny Rayquaza is Level 75 and has powerful Dragon-type attacks at its disposal.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Shiny Rayquaza has the Dragon type as its Tera type and will start the battle with the powerful Flying-type move Dragon Ascent. After that, Rayquaza will frequently use the moves Dragon Pulse, Hurricane, Extreme Speed, and Earthquake. It will also make careful use of Draco Meteor and Dragon Dance at set intervals. Rayquaza's Air Lock ability will negate weather effects completely. However, its reliance on Dragon-type attacks renders Shiny Rayquaza vulnerable to a team of strong Fairy Pokemon such as Sylveon, Tinkaton, and Azumarill.
With a full squad of Level 100 Fairy Pokemon, trainers should have little issue catching Shiny Rayquaza. As fans wait for more news about the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it remains to be seen what The Pokemon Company has in store in 2025.
