Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Rarest Marks On Pokemon

An addition to the classic Pokemon-catching formula first seen in Sword and Shield, marks are a rare detail that adds titles to any Pokemon found with them. In Scarlet and Violet, marks have returned, with a few new ones to fill out this roster of pleasantries. With 50 marks obtainable throughout the Paldea region, the land of Kitakami, and the terrarium in Blueberry Academy, some marks are signficnatly more rare and much more difficult to find.

Since so many marks are possible, many have low chances of appearing or certain requirements to appear. Beyond base odds for a given mark, the requirements for the marks certainly add to the rarity of a given mark. The Mark Charm given to players after completing the Blueberry Pokedex may help players obtain certain marks, though these marks ranked with increasing rarity are still no simple feat. Here are the rarest marks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

5 Misty Mark

A Mark Made Nearly Impossible

On the surface, the Misty Mark seems no different and therefore no rarer than the other weather-reliant marks. And while this 1/50 mark should be easy to obtain for those wanting a mist-drifter Pokemon, there's one small caveat making this mark basically impossible for players not in the know.

Despite every other form of weather being readily available across various locations in Scarlet and Violet, misty or foggy weather is not possible. There is no spot on any map where fog can roll in, but there is a special technique to obtain such an elusive mark. In the Teal Mask DLC, on certain spots of the map's edge, the player can sit on their ride Pokemon on this natural rock wall and foggy weather will appear. Since weather marks are applied to Pokemon based on where the player is, not the actual Pokemon itself, it's entirely possible to find any number of Pokemon with this usually impossible mark.

4 Destiny Mark

Possible Only Once A Year

The Destiny mark has a base 1/25 chance to appear on any and all catchable Pokemon, making it seemingly one of the more common marks in the game. However, the celebratory nature of the mark makes it possible only once a year; on the player's birthday.

Factoring in that the Destiny mark is available only one day out of the year, the odds are drastically lower than 1/25. For most players, it could be nearly an entire year before the mark is available to them. Unless the lucky day is upcoming, or the player wants to just date skip, most hunts have to be planned out in advance to get a small birthday present.

3 Alpha Mark

A Blast From Sinnoh's Past

The rarity of the Alpha mark factors in two key parts. For players in Scarlet and Violet who don't own Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the mark is impossible, and for players who have access to Hisui, getting certain alpha Pokemon are far harder than others.

While some alpha Pokemon in Legends: Arceus are guaranteed spawns, most have anywhere between a 0.2% chance and a 2% chance. This rarity increases further for those hunting shiny alphas, but the low spawn rate of even normal alphas makes this mark no easy task. At the very least, once transferred to Scarlet and Violet, the mark is 100% guaranteed once players have completed the difficult task of catching an Alpha.

2 1/100 Marks

A Rare Variety

Over 25 marks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have base 1/100 odds of appearing, with all of them being unaffected by weather conditions or other ways of manipulating the chances of these marks appearing at all. With these marks being the most descriptive, along with being featured in numerous mass outbreak events, finding the right mark on a certain Pokemon will be a lengthy process.

With these marks functioning as the more descriptive titles in the game, they're a great bonus and an easy target for players wanting especially rare shiny Pokemon. While not as rare as another mark, actually finding a specific one of these 1/100 marks is perhaps just as tedious. Sandwiches with title power are certainly a good approach to try and find any of these marks, especially if the target Pokemon is in Area Zero or another weatherless and timeless location, but since the power doesn't increase the rarity of a specific 1/100 mark, it's only a matter of getting lucky.

1 Rare Mark

Exactly What It Sounds Like

Unsurprisingly, the Rare mark is the rarest mark in the game from its base odds. Starting at 1/1000 and jumping up to 3/1000 when the player has the Mark charm, finding such a reclusive Pokemon will not be a fast hunt, especially when there isn't a way to increase its odds of appearing beyond that.

With so many other marks competing for the same spot as the Rare mark, actually finding a Pokemon with it is practically guaranteed to be a long process of trial and error. The Indigo Disk DLC's currency offers players an update to see whether or not a Pokemon has a mark may expedite such testing, but hoping for the rarest mark of all is still most of the battle. Sandwich powers can help, and trying to limit what other marks can be available should narrow down the options, but the mark still lives up to its name.
