The next seven-star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature Mewtwo, according to a newly emerged leak arriving in the form of a prematurely published regional newsletter. This mistimed reveal arrives mere days after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launched the Rillaboom Tera Raid event.
The latest mainline Pokemon RPGs follow up on the Max Raid Battles from Sword and Shield with the introduction of Tera Raids. As was the case with the previous pair of games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Tera Raids offer an opportunity to take down one giant pocket monster with a team of four creatures. Game Freak has been running the most rewarding, seven-star variants of these events on a monthly basis ever since its latest mainline Pokemon games debuted in late 2022.
The next seven-star Tera Raid will seemingly feature Mewtwo, according to the latest edition of a Thai-Japanese Nintendo newsletter that prematurely surfaced online on August 7. A screenshot of the newsletter's header, first spotted by Twitter user Alex Cardinal, clearly shows Mewtwo in its terastallized form from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which is how the creature would be expected to look in a hypothetical Tera Raid.
The seven-star raids in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet typically run over two four-day periods with at least a week in between them. While players are only able to catch one of the featured Pokemon across both editions of a given raid, Game Freak has been consistently running the events in pairs in order to provide players with more opportunities to obtain some of the most powerful creatures in Scarlet and Violet. Many seven-star Tera Raids have historically starred either legendaries or pseudo-legendary Pokemon; Mewtwo would very much continue that trend, seeing how it's one of the most recognizable legendary creatures in the entire franchise.
The veracity of this leak is likely to be confirmed at the next Pokemon Presents event, which Nintendo and The Pokemon Company scheduled for Tuesday, August 8. As per usual, fans are in for over half an hour's worth of Pokemon news spanning everything from Scarlet and Violet to the Pokemon TCG, merchandise, and mobile apps such as Pokemon Sleep and Pokemon GO.
In the meantime, anyone eager to catch Mewtwo who still hasn't powered through Scarlet and Violet's main quest should make that their number one priority. Namely, the seven-star events only become accessible after finishing the games' story, all gym leader rematches, and completing a few five-star Tera Raid battles.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
