Update 2.0.2 for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fixes a major bug impacting non-story trainer battles, typically preventing some side missions like the Kitakami Ogre Clan side quest from being completed. With the recent launch of The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans have been returning to the game in droves to experience the new storyline, check out some of the new gameplay elements, as well as catch all of the new and returning Pokemon through the expansion.
As expected, players will have plenty to do once the main storyline wraps up with The Teal Mask introducing a bunch of post-campaign activities and missions outside of attempting to complete Kitakami's Pokedex. With minigames like Ogre Oustin' as well as new legendaries including Ogerpon and the Loyal Three who are made up of Munkidori, Okidogi, and Fezandipiti. Players can also choose to go up against powerful trainers called the Ogre Clan, though Pokemon players have started to run into a bug that was essentially hard capping their victories at 300, preventing the die mission from being completed.
Thankfully, Game Freak has reacted quickly, going out to confirm a new patch in October would fix the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trainer battle hard cap issue. The studio delivered on that promise as Update 2.0.2 has not only arrived, but has also fixed the hard cap issue, allowing players to finally go beyond 300 trainer battle victories, which in turn, should also enable players to wrap up side missions like the Ogre Clan or battling optional Pokemon League employees. Players can reengage with any trainers in the field which were not recorded as a victory previously.
While that fix alone should please players, the update also includes a couple of extra bug fixes as well. It also corrected a potential game crash in the final battle if the player already had a Koraidon or Miraidon registered in the Pokedex as well as another problem for Pokemon HOME users where special Pokemon GO creatures couldn't be deposited into the game. The update is available now and will need to be installed before players can go online.
The trainer battle bug was especially nasty as once players reached 300 optional battles won, the game's trainer record storage hard cap essentially stopped counting, ensuring that any side missions that had players battling a faction wouldn't count. At that point, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players were unable to finish these missions and miss out on rewards of XP and money. Worse yet, with a second expansion on the way, many were initially worried that the experience would be hampered further as any optional battles wouldn't be counted there either until a patch arrived.
