Summary

  • An issue has been discovered in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's new DLC that sets the IVs of Legendary Pokemon to zero, making trainers cautious about catching them.
  • The Indigo Disk DLC allows trainers to catch 25 Legendary Pokemon from past games, but the IV issue adds another consideration for trainers.
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Hyper Training feature can correct any IV issues Legendary Pokemon may have while players wait to see if Game Freak will implement a fix.

Some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players may want to hold off on their hunt for Legendary Pokemon in the Indigo Disk DLC, as an issue with the way Individual Values (IVs) were handled was discovered. In short, all the returning Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had their IVs set to zero, which may give some trainers pause to catch these powerful Pokemon until a fix is implemented.

Released on December 14, The Indigo Disk is the second part of the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As players continue their journeys at the Blueberry Academy and the Terarium, they are eventually given the chance to catch Legendary Pokemon by taking part in specific tasks given by Snacksworth in exchange for treats to lure them out. With these treats in hand, Pokemon trainers can return to Paldea to find and catch 25 Legendary Pokemon from past Pokemon games. From Articuno to Spectrier, players looking to catch them all will have something else to consider while searching for them.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Fans Have Theory About NPCs from the Indigo Disk DLC

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans theorize connections between a character from The Inidgo Disk and the Black and White games as well as Legends Arcues.

According to CentroLeaks on Twitter, the IV values of Legendary Pokemon were not set correctly, even after the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Patch 3.0.0. Even though the patch fixed some bugs related to Pokemon abilities, such as Neutralizing Gas, the patch seemingly brought to light an issue with the returning Legendary Pokemon and their static encounters in the open world. Usually, a legendary Pokemon will have maximum IVs in three statistics, which is not the case with this update. Another Twitter user named mattyoukhana_ pointed out that the IV generation method the developers used essentially set the IVs of the returning Legendary Pokemon to zero, and claimed it was a feature rather than a bug. At the time of writing, it is not known if or when Game Freak will patch this issue out.

While this news may frustrate or entice some Pokemon trainers, there are methods to evaluate and maximize each value. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, trainers can check the IVs of a specific Pokemon by using the Judge function in the Boxes menu. The IVs range from "No Good" to "Best" in the Judge menu, and determine the maximum potential of Effort Values (EVs). IVs can be maximized via Hyper Training by speaking to an NPC near the Pokemon Center in Montenevera, which can correct any IV issues that a Legendary Pokemon may have.

Between the Legendary Pokemon IV issue, and complaints about missing features in The Indigo Disk, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans made their opinions about the DLC known on social media. It remains to be seen what Game Freak will do in response.
