Throughout all of Red Rescue Team, you and your partner will continue to level up, though you won't evolve once you reach the usual level a Pokemon evolves at. Later in the game, you'll be able to evolve both yourself, your partner, and all the Pokemon that join your rescue team.

While evolution is a major part of the mainline Pokemon games, it takes a backseat in the Mystery Dungeon games, at least throughout the main story. Here is how to evolve yourself, and all other Pokemon that have joined your rescue team.

How To Evolve In Red Rescue Team

The first step in evolving in Red Rescue Team is beating the main game and rolling the credits. Overall the game isn't very long, and there is a lot of post-game content to look forward to and to tackle in your evolved form. After beating the game, leave your home the next day to trigger a cutscene with your partner, Caterpie, and Metapod. After this conversation, head to Pokemon Square then north to Whiscash Pond.

Another cutscene will trigger where you meet an evolved Snubbull and Alakazam will explain what evolution is. The cave for evolution will appear in the far stone in the center of Whiscash Pond, but can only be entered by a single Pokemon. After this conversation, head back to your home and approach the southern path that leads to dungeons to trigger another conversation with your partner, where they will talk about selecting new leaders for the rescue team, and unlock the option to put your partner is standby in a Friend Area.

  • Open the menu and select Team, go to your partner's name, and place them on standby to be alone and able to enter the cave.
  • Evolution requires a Pokemon to be whatever level they need to be to evolve in the mainline series for the cave to work.
  • Pokemon that require items to evolve will still need those items to evolve once entering the cave.

How To Change Party Leaders In Red Rescue Team

While it is easy to evolve yourself since you are the leader, you'll need to make whatever Pokemon you want to evolve your leader to do so for them. To change your leader, visit the Pokemon you want to make leader in their Friend Area and talk to them. The new option to make them leader will now be available, and this can be done on any Pokemon you have. There is no limitation, and you won't need either your Pokemon or your partner in any party, letting you mix and match to make your perfect team.
