A Pokemon fan made an incredible find when picking up a used copy of Pokemon Pearl, discovering a special event Pokemon hiding in the innocuous save file. With the overwhelming popularity of the monster-catching franchise, older Pokemon games can be a rare find for many fans looking to re-visit the franchise's past, with the games often boasting exorbitant price tags. Some of the franchise's Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS games can reach over $100, with fifth-generation games like Pokemon Black and White being particularly elusive. Now, a Pokemon fan has made an amazing discovery in a DS game.

Event Pokemon have been a staple of the Pokemon franchise since its early days, though the method for acquiring event Pokemon has changed wildly. Many of Pokemon's older games would feature special distribution events, giving out unique Legendary and Mythical Pokemon at major events or game stores. Recent years have seen Pokemon's event creatures move largely to online distribution, with players able to pick up a wide variety of Pokemon with unique moves or traits through the online Mystery Gift system. One Pokemon fan has now found a surprising relic of the franchise's older days.

The Game Boy Advance handheld console had some of the most iconic Pokemon games. While they are all loved, some are better than others.

A post shared to the Pokemon subreddit by Reddit user Thiccolo876 showed off their stunning find in a used copy of Pokemon Pearl. The user relays their story of buying the game from a local vintage store, only to discover that the game's pre-existing save file contained a special version of Mythical Pokemon Jirachi. The Jirachi was given out during an event at participating GameStop stores during the summer of 2010, coming in the special Cherish Ball and knowing Wish, Confusion, Rest, and Draco Meteor. The user even shared more images of the Pokemon Pearl copy, showing it was complete with box and manuals.

Pokemon Fan Finds Event Jirachi in Used Pokemon Pearl Game

The unique Jirachi hails from a time where the Mythical Pokemon was a rarity to find without using cheat devices. Jirachi was notoriously only originally available through a bonus disc included with copies of Pokemon Colosseum and through distribution events. Jirachi has only once been included in a main-series Pokemon game within the base game, with players able to find one copy of the Wish Pokemon in Floaroma Town in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokemon Jirachi Paradox Form

The surprising Jirachi find comes as the Pokemon franchise continues to include plenty of elusive and hard-to-find Mythical Pokemon. Pokemon GO debuted its own Mythical Pokemon for players to acquire, with Meltan and Melmetal only available through the mobile and game and unavailable in games after Pokemon Sword and Shield. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also introduced a new Mythical Pokemon as part of the games' DLC expansion, with players able to acquire Pecharunt after completing the epilogue. The Reddit user's new Jirachi is a rare and valuable look back into the Pokemon franchise's storied history.
