Summary

  • Mew, a rare legendary Pokemon, was highlighted with a galaxy-themed painting by a talented fan artist.
  • Mew stood out in Gen 1 for being uncatchable without special Nintendo events in the 90s.
  • In addition, various recent artworks have reimagined Mew in unique ways, like a Xeno-Mew creature and a mecha form.

A Pokemon fan has recently painted an amazing space-inspired picture of Mew using acrylic paints, sharing the amazing results with the community. Mew is among the most mysterious Pokemon in the franchise, and this painting depicts the legendary creature in a new light, exploring the critter’s implied relationship with outer space.

Mew is one of the first legendary Pokemon to be introduced to the series, appearing late in Gen 1. This unique Psychic-type Pokemon stands out from similar monsters because it cannot be caught in the original Pokemon Blue and Red. To acquire Mew during the 90s, players needed to participate in special Nintendo events, such as Space World 1997, a Japanese convention where 100,000 Mews were offered to fans.

Now, a talented fan artist called Danderlyon shared an amazing painting of Mew on r/pokemon, obtaining over 1,700 upvotes from the fanbase. In this artwork, which was made using acrylic paints on a 30x40 cm canvas, Mew is depicted as a galaxy using an impressive mixture of purple, pink, and blue colors. According to Danderlyon, every single star in the painting was hand-placed, and the whole work took a few hours to complete.

Amazing Fan-Made Galaxy-Themed Mew Painting

This is the latest of several artworks inspired by Mew to appear in the community recently. A few weeks ago, for example, a fan combined Mew with a Xenomorph, creating an impressive creature called Xeno-Mew. In this unique fan art, the artist kept most of Mew’s most important features and colors intact but reimagined it as a very thin creature with sharp claws and a Xenomorph-inspired tail.

In another recent artwork, a creator devised a Mew made of stained glass. The impressive tribute was created by drawing Mew’s body and eyes using paint and then creating the glass with an oven. Overall, it was a very unique piece with interesting colors that was very popular with other fans.

Last year, another fan created a futuristic mecha form for Mew. This was yet another impressive example of how creative Pokemon fan art can be, as Mew was reimagined as a cute cat-like mecha with grey and dark pink colors. The metallic creature had rainbow-colored wings on its back, as well as several hexagonal plates on its body. Despite Mew not being such a prominent Pokemon as it once was during the 90s, it’s likely that other fans will design amazing fan art featuring it in the future, possibly delighting the community.
