Zuruggu and Mimikkyuu made their appearances on the internet stage just two weeks ago on June 4th as a cartoon inspired by Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. It seems that Pokemon is interested in continuing to make Poketoons, and a whole lot more besides.

Nintendo, along with Creatures Inc. And Game Freak, has filed for trademark over the nostalgic cartoon. The details give great insight into what could be ahead for it. In addition to the expected, "Provide videos online" for example, there are categories listed that Pokemon fans will need to keep their eyes open for in the future. The companies apparently want to set the stage for a future Pokemon video game based on the toons, as well as offer merchandise from clothing and snack foods to furniture.

Fans have been comparing the Poketoon short to the likes of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, and Porky Pig, who have had their fair share of video games and other merchandise. Mickey in particular has had a great run with Kingdom Hearts. It's good that Nintendo is getting this franchise locked down now.

Pokemon already has a great deal of merchandise to date like Build-a-Bear plushies and many, many video games. One in particular achieved worldwide viral success: Pokemon GO is still being played even while people are in quarantine.
