As the first season of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's online ranked battles comes to a close, players will soon be able to earn Delphoxite, needed to obtain Mega Delphox once Season 2 is underway. Pokemon Legends: Z-A plans to release one Kalos starter Mega Stone per season for the game's first three seasons, but players who missed out on Mega Greninja in Season 1 don't have to fear. It appears Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be incorporating fan feedback about the distribution method for these Megas into future seasons, as Season 2 already features an exciting improvement.
One of the biggest controversies leading up to the launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A was the game locking the new Mega Evolutions for Kalos starters behind the game's online ranked battle mode, the Z-A Battle Club. While Season 1 made getting Mega Greninja fairly easy, only requiring players to reach rank K with no rank decay for losing a battle, some players were still concerned about Greninjite only being available for a limited time.
To participate in the Z-A Battle Club and earn any of the Kalos starter Mega Stones, players will still need to purchase a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, another factor that has contributed to this controversy.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Can Still Earn Mega Greninja After Season 1 Ends
Even if players weren't able to reach rank K in Season 1 of the Z-A Battle Club online ranked matches, they will still be able to earn Greninjite in Season 2. Along with details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A's addition of Mega Delphox in Season 2, The Pokemon Company also confirmed that Greninjite will return as another ranked reward. To make this news even better, earning Greninjite will be even easier in Season 2 than it was in Season 1, meaning any player who participates in the online ranked battle feature of Legends: Z-A will likely be able to get this Mega Evolution.
Mega Greninja Will Be Essentially Free in Season 2 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Online Ranked Battles
- Rank Y — Mega Greninja
- Rank S — Mega Delphox
Starting when P okemon Legends: Z-A Season 2 is live on November 6, players who reach rank Y will automatically earn Greninjite. Since players start at rank Z in online battles, attaining a single rank to access Mega Greninja is basically free. Players don't even need to win an online match to earn points towards a rank-up; simply participating in a battle and completing tasks like picking up items or scoring a KO will likely be enough to advance players to Rank Y so they can earn Greninjite.
Even earning Mega Delphox in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 2 will be easier than in the previous season, as the rank players need to achieve to earn this new Mega Stone has been drastically reduced from rank K to rank S. Even if players only want to play a few Pokemon Legends: Z-A's free-for-all online battles in Season 2, it should still be enough to earn both Mega Stones on offer.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Kalos Starter Mega Stone Distribution is a Good Sign for the Future
Pokemon Legends: Z-A re-running Greninjite as a reward is a great sign for the future of ranked battle rewards, especially with the possibility of the Hoenn starter Mega Stones being distributed as online ranked rewards after the Mega Dimension DLC releases. With this precedent set, it's likely that Delphoxite will be available at a similar rank in Season 3. The fact that Mega Delphox can be obtained at a lower rank in Season 2, and Mega Greninja will still be available after its introductory season, shows that fan feedback is being considered from season to season, so hopefully this trend will continue.
