Pokemon Legends: Z-A has been out for a little less than two weeks now, and while some fans are still looking to complete the story at their own pace, others are well into the post-game hunting shinies with the Shiny Charm. Regardless of where one falls, Pokemon Legends: Z-A does have a lot of content to complete and rare critters to get, including the quests for Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. Be it during the game's story or in online ranked battles, Mega Greninja has seen a lot of hype and usage from fans. However, its days are numbered, and players need to act fast.
For those looking for how to get Greninjite in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the answer lies in online play. This may not be the ideal answer for those who don't want to pay for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, but unfortunately, it is the only way at this time. It's not uncommon for the series to have exclusive rewards for online play, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A follows suit with its Gen 6 starters.
- Mega Greninja/Greninjite is available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Season 1 until November 4 at 9:59 p.m. PST.
- Mega Delphox/Delphoxite will be available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Season 2, starting November 5.
- Mega Chesnaught/Chesnaughtite will be available in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Season 3, starting November 26.
What follows is that, while Mega Greninja is one of the most popular and best Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Ranked Battles, fans only have another week to get it. Considering the official website's wording, stating that Greninjite "can’t be obtained through normal gameplay," it's plausible that this option won't be added in the future.
It's worth noting that some exclusive rewards from online play return from time to time, so Mega Greninja and Greninjite may come back once or twice a year. This is not confirmed, however.
Say Goodbye to Mega Steelix and Scizor in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Pokemon Legends: Z-A fans who are interested in getting both Mega Steelix and Mega Scizor may be in for a bitter surprise.
How to Get Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Greninjite and Mega Greninja, and Why It's Easy
In order to receive Greninjite, which is needed to get Mega Greninja in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, players must reach Rank K in Season 1. Luckily, this is easier than one might think, as winning is not mandatory. Players can get points in the following ways:
- X-Pokemon defeater - Challenge that awards 10 points for every opposing Pokemon defeated in a battle.
- Dealt first attack - Challenge that awards 10 points for attacking an opposing Pokemon before anyone else.
- Dealt last attack - Challenge that awards 10 points for being the last to attack an opposing Pokemon.
- First to claim an item - Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who is the first to pick up an item in a battle.
- First to Mega Evolve - Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who Mega Evolves their Pokemon before anyone else.
- Flawless survivor - Challenge that awards 10 points to players whose Pokemon don't faint in a battle.
- Fresh opponent hunter - Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who attacks opposing Pokemon at full health the most number of times.
- Mega Evolution destroyer - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat a Mega Evolved Pokemon.
- Mega-Evolving master - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat an opposing Pokemon with a Mega Evolved Pokemon.
- Most active attacker - Challenge that awards 10 points to the player who lands the most attacks in a battle.
- Plus Move master - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat an opposing Pokemon with a Plus Move.
- Scatter attacker - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who defeat at least one Pokemon from each opponent.
- Supereffective attacker - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who use supereffective moves 5 times or more in a battle.
- Three-in-a-row KO - Challenge that awards 10 points to players who get three consecutive KOs.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Plus Moves can be used by pressing "+" in the attack selection screen.
Furthermore, a player's placement at the end of the battle will award or subtract points from the total. First place is 30 points, second is 10, third is -10, and fourth is -30. As such, it's relatively easy to have a positive total of points in a single game, and with ranks not decaying after being acquired, players can't really lose progress much. There are 13 10-point challenges, 1 challenge that gives 10 points for each defeated opposing Pokemon, and then the placing can also provide up to 30 points.
Ties in Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Link Battles make all players with the same score get the highest possible position for that score.
November 5 is Officially The End of an Era For Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Yet, time is running out for Mega Greninja and Greninjite, as players can only get this exclusive item and Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A until November 5. Since Greninjite is a reward for reaching Rank K, fans should get there at the very least from now, October 27, until November 4. The process requires a total of 15 ranks, going from Rank Z for those who have yet to play online all the way to Rank K.
Early ranks are very easily cleared, and theoretically, one can rack up well over 100 points in a single match under the right conditions. However, the grind can still take a few hours of online play, depending on the player's familiarity with the mode. There's also a timer to keep an eye on, so players should score as many KOs as possible within the limit. All this requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, so players will need to pay for it or use the 7-day free trial.
Why Pokemon Legends: Z-A Players Can't Miss This Online Battle Milestone
Since Greninjite becomes unavailable with the end of Season 1 on November 4, players who didn't get the exclusive item will be unable to use Mega Greninja in battle for the foreseeable future. Season 2 is about Mega Delphox and Season 3 is about Mega Chesnaught, so it's likely that Greninjite won't be coming back until at the very least the release date of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC, if not a couple of months later. Fans have to act fast, and the weekend of Halloween may be the best time to get a bunch of wins in Season 1.
