April Fools! The following was posted April 1st, 2025.

A recent leak reveals the first new look at three Mega Evolutions coming to Pokemon Legends: Z-A when it releases in late 2025. Prior to this, descriptions of several mega evolutions had leaked online, such as Mega Falinks essentially being a Voltron assembly and Mega Starmie having extended legs, but this represents the first actual image of new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

These newly leaked Mega Evolutions are Dragonite, Clefable, and Falinks . It's worth noting that prior Pokemon Legends: Z-A leaks have indicated that 27 new Mega Evolutions are coming to the game, so there will undoubtedly be more leaked or revealed in time. Of course, until The Pokemon Company and Game Freak confirm these Mega Evolutions themselves, fans should take the following information with a grain of salt.

That said, The Best War Games has independently verified the legitimacy of documents obtained by Jenny in a Typhlosion Raid, with these documents giving a detailed look at these three Mega Evolutions. There is the image below but also new names and descriptions provided for these Mega Evolutions. Dragonite, for example, adopts a color more akin to its predecessors, while becoming more ferocious despite a more blasé appearance. The description describes it as something like a real-world relaxasaurian, or Relaxaurus, in nature. Meanwhile, Falinks actually has two Mega Evolutions, with the leaked version removing the darkness around its face to reveal that it's an adorable, glowing, ball-shaped lamb, a Lamball if you would. Clefable's face and torso receive a slight update to add something more cat-like to the mix, reportedly inspired by a real-world creature known as Cattiva.

New Mega Evolutions List

  • Dragonite Cryst
  • Clefable Botan
  • Falinks Lux

This leak further indicated two major changes coming to how Mega Evolutions work. First, Game Freak is changing the naming conventions of all Mega Evolutions, mostly to avoid the redundancy of Mega Meganium. The new conventions were not detailed in full, but these three will be known as Dragonite Cryst, Clefable Botan, and Falinks Lux. Longtime players also know that Mega Evolution previously required Pokemon to hold Mega Stones typically ending in -ite. Mostly to avoid the redundancy of Dragoniteite, all Mega Evolutions now require players to catch the original Pokemon in a Mega Sphere.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A overhauling Mega Evolution mechanics to such a degree is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. It remains to be seen which are competitively viable or prove to be fan-favorites, but it's not hard to imagine Dragonite Cryst being a strong contender in both categories.
