Pokemon Legends: Z-A is only one week away from launch, and while trailers and its news cycle stopped a while ago, the datamine "season" has now officially begun, thanks to the game's pre-load on the Nintendo store and a few copies in the wild. Unlike leaks, which can be volatile if the sources are not trustworthy or things change internally before launch, datamining is mostly very accurate because it takes information from the game's code. At the time of the so-called TeraLeak, everything pointed to 26 new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with Mega Zeraora being the 27th and allegedly scrapped. Now, a reliable dataminer by the name of Kaphotics on Twitter, who has provided a lot of data regarding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, confirmed that data for Mega Zeraora is in the game, and also for Mega Darkrai and Mega Heatran.

Zeraora and Darkrai are Mythical Pokemon, whereas Heatran is a Legendary from Gen 4.

All the leaks for the game pointed to 26 Mega Evolutions that included no Legendary or Mythical other than Mega Zygarde, which makes sense as the mascot of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. These are:

Of these, only 7 have been confirmed, and they are Mega Victreebel, Dragonite, Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, Malamar, and Hawlucha. Since they perfectly match their leaked descriptions, it makes sense that these Pokemon will all be in the game. However, nothing pointed to a Mega Evolution for Darkrai and Heatran from the TeraLeak, but Kaphotics' datamining proves they are real.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Pokedex is already clear thanks to officially confirmed Pokemon from trailers, as well as multiple leaks and rumors.

3 New Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions Are Already Clear

Kaphotics found data in the game for Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Stones dedicated to Heatran, Darkrai, and Zeraora, meaning that these items are there and meant to be used by players. It's unclear whether this will mean that the three Mythical and Legendary Pokemon will get a Mega Evolution in the base game, though.

This could happen via a post-launch event, for example, or they could be catchable in the base game or via events, and then get a Mega Stone in the DLC. Since Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC is already confirmed and available for pre-orders, with a lot of Mega Stones teased in its trailer alongside the confirmed Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, it would make sense for these three iconic critters to get their Mega Evolution there.

How Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Heatran, Darkrai, and Zeraora Could Change

While Zeraora was leaked months ago, Heatran and Darkrai are completely new, and there is no indication of how they might change in terms of types or appearance. As the only Fire and Steel Pokemon in the franchise, Heatran is basically guaranteed to keep its original type combo. Since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet added Electric/Fighting Pokemon in the form of the Pawmot line and Iron Hands, a PLZA Mega Zeraora would make sense as an Electric/Fighting critter.

Last but not least, Darkrai is one of the most popular Pokemon overall, so even if it doesn't get a type change, its Mega will most likely be a big one. Since it does have legs despite its most common form not showing them, they could be used as another element of the Mega Evolution. 4 Pokemon in Legends: Z-A get a new type when Mega Evolving, so it would make sense to see more of these, but Darkrai will probably retain its Dark-only type. The only critters with a new type combo are:

  • Mega Clefable: Fairy/Flying - previously Fairy
  • Mega Meganium: Grass/Fairy - previously Grass
  • Mega Feraligatr: Water/Dragon - previously Water
  • Mega Barbaracle: Rock/Fighting - previously Rock/Water

For now, fans will have to wait and see, as even those players with early copies of Pokemon Legends: Z-A will most likely have no access to Heatran, Darkrai, and Zeraora's Mega Evolutions yet. Still, they will be there in some way, and they could very well be rather powerful.
