More news about Malamar in Pokemon Legends: Z-A will arrive on Wednesday, September 10, according to materials obtained by content creators. Given the track record that Pokemon Legends: Z-A has had in revealing its main features, September 10 will likely be the day that Malamar's Mega Evolution form will officially be shown off.
On September 4, Pokemon Legends: Z-A released a strange social media video post about Malamar, which featured people sharing their appreciation for the squid-like creature that debuted in Pokemon X and Y. As part of the "My Friend Malamar" campaign, the video showcased Pokemon trainers crafting murals in Malamar's image and being covered head to toe in Malamar merchandise. In the mainline Pokemon games, Malamar is considered a Dark and Psychic dual-type monster known for using its signature move, Topsy-Turvy, to reverse the stat changes of its target and turn the battle on its head.
Pokemon Unite Adding More Mega Evolutions
Pokemon Unite reveals that more Mega Evolution forms will join the fray throughout the rest of 2025 and confirms exactly when two of them will arrive.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Potential Mega Malamar Reveal Has a Date
As excitement around Pokemon Legends: Z-A gained momentum on social media, the company confirmed that the Malamar campaign will culminate in an upcoming presentation. As reported by Serebii.net, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will broadcast a video about Malamar on Wednesday, September 10, at 9:00 AM Eastern. The news was confirmed via materials distributed to Pokemon content creators for the Malamar promotion period, which included postcards and a plush doll similar to the ones featured in the September 4 video. It is currently unknown how long the video presentation themed on Malamar will last. In response, Pokemon fans on social media stated that Mega Malamar could be revealed on the morning of September 10.
Pokemon fans also said that the "My Friend Malamar" promotion lines up with The Pokemon Company's previous reveals of Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha, though each had less time between the initial teases and the official reveals compared to Malamar's campaign. While Mega Malamar has yet to be officially confirmed by The Pokemon Company as of this writing, a previously reported leak of Pokemon Legends: Z-A's upcoming Mega Evolution forms indicated that Malamar would receive one. Additionally, with the Mega Evolution forms of Dragonite, Victreebel, and Hawlucha being officially revealed, the leaked Mega Evolution list is currently three-for-three on stating which creatures would get new forms in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Given the creative direction that Pokemon Legends: Z-A has taken with revealing Mega Evolutions like Hawlucha, the ongoing Malamar social media campaign is unsurprising. Whether Mega Malamar is shown off on September 10 remains to be seen.
