Summary
- Chikorita in Pokemon Legends: Z-A can learn Disarming Voice, a move it can't typically use, sparking speculation.
- Fans theorize that Chikorita's evolution, Meganium, may gain a Fairy-type Mega Evolution in the game.
Following the Pokemon Presents broadcast headlined by Pokemon Legends: Z-A, some fans pointed out a change Chikorita will receive in the upcoming game. In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, one of Chikorita's apparent moves is Disarming Voice, a Fairy-type attack that it can't normally learn in other Pokemon games at the time of writing.
Known as the Leaf Pokemon, Chikorita first appeared in Pokemon Gold and Silver. As the Grass-type starter of the Johto region, Chikorita's counterparts are Cyndaquil and Totodile. Chikorita is known for its small green body and the large leaf on top of its head, which it can swing around and fire off attacks like Razor Leaf. Chikorita evolves into Bayleef and Meganium by leveling up, granting it access to more powerful Grass-type attacks. Chikorita can be caught in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet by upgrading the Terarium's Coastal Biome and exploring the grassy areas near the shoreline.
Pokemon Fans Have Some Interesting Theories About the Legends: Z-A Protagonists
This year's Pokemon Presents gives fans a good look at Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and many already have tons of theories regarding the protagonists.
After revealing that Chikorita would join Tepig and Totodile as the starters of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, trainers shared their first impressions of the Leaf Pokemon's return to the franchise. On Twitter, Pokemon content creator HDvee pointed out that Chikorita had a move called Disarming Voice available to use in battle, along with Leafage, Leech Seed, and Razor Leaf. However, Disarming Voice is a Fairy-type attack that Chikorita cannot normally learn through any means in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This reveal led HDvee and other Pokemon trainers to speculate that, with the return of Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Meganium would receive a Mega Evolution with the Grass and Fairy dual-types.
Chikorita Can Learn Disarming Voice in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
While no new Mega forms were revealed in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A trailer, past Mega Evolutions for critters like Charizard, Lucario, and Ampharos were confirmed to appear in the upcoming game. As it stands, Chikorita and its evolutions are purely Grass-type Pokemon, with a focus on defense and supporting teammates with moves like Reflect and Light Screen. However, Chikorita's low stats and predictable moves make it one of the weaker starter Pokemon in the series. Should a Mega Meganium gain the Fairy-type as a secondary type, it would share types with creatures like Whimsicott, Tapu Bulu, and Shiinotic.
While Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled for late 2025, The Pokemon Company will release content for other titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Pokemon Unite throughout the year. Only time will tell when more Pokemon Legends: Z-A news will appear.
