The recent Diamond & Pearl remakes are a little lacking when it comes to fire-type Pokemon, at least before players have unlocked the National Dex, anyway. Fire-type fans can rejoice, however, as Pokemon Legends: Arceus fares quite a bit better in this regard, with a decent selection available from fairly early on in the game.

As well as the obligatory Fire-type starter Pokemon, players can also get their hands on a flame-wielding Legendary as well as a couple of new Hisuian forms that also have access to the element. Those looking to find the very best Fire-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will therefore have a difficult decision on their hands.

Typholosion's new regional form boasts an excellent Special Attack stat and is reasonably fast to boot. It's easily accessible on account of it being a starter Pokemon and is completely immune to both Normal and Fighting-type attacks thanks to it being a Fire / Ghost-type. If possible, players should aim for a Mild nature, which lowers its Defense stat while increasing its Special Attack.

How to Get Hisuian Typhlosion in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Hisuian Typhlosion is the final form of Cyndaquil; evolving from Quilava at Level 36. Players can choose Cyndaquil as a starter Pokemon at the beginning of the game or get one by speaking to the professor after beating the final main story boss. Doing so will also cause Cyndaquil and its evolutions to begin appearing in space-time distortions, though only in the Crimson Mirelands area.

Magmortar is easily the best pure Fire-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, though is a little trickier to get a hold of than some of the other options. Its lack of a secondary typing means that it still has all of the same old Fire-type weaknesses too, but it makes up for this somewhat with its blisteringly high Special Attack stat. If possible, players should look for one with a Mild nature to further exploit this strength.

How to Get Magmortar in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can get their hands on Magmortar by evolving Magmar using a Magmarizer, which can be obtained in a number of ways, The simplest is to grab one from the Item Exchange near the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village, though doing so will require 1,400 Merit Points. Alternatively, players can dig up Magmarizers using Ursaluna or find them on the ground in space-time distortions. As for Magmar, players can find them on Firespit Island in the Cobalt Coastlands region.

One of Sinnoh's original starter evolutions, Infernape has three key stats over 100, which is more than can be said for many of its peers. Being a Fire / Fighting-type that can hit hard with either physical or special attacks, it's a lot more versatile than the likes of Magmortar and Flareon. Players should aim for a Hasty or Naive nature if possible, though could also boost one of its attack stats if they'd prefer it to specialize.

How to Get Infernape in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch an Alpha Infernape out on Ramanas Island in the Cobalt Coastlands area. Its unevolved forms, Monferno and Chimchar can also be found there, with the latter also showing up in the nearby Deertrack Heights. Chimchar evolves into Monferno at Level 14 and Monferno evolves into Infernape at Level 36.

Being a Legendary Pokemon, it's perhaps unsurprising to find Heatran near the top of a list of strong Pokemon. Its 600 base stat total alone gives it the edge over most of the competition, with the solid distribution taking care of the rest. The Fire / Steel-type is an exceptional special attacker with high Defense and Special Defense stats to back it up. Players should look for a Quiet nature if they're able, but Modest would also work well.

How to Get Heatran in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players will be able to catch Heatran during the post-game section of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It can be found on Firespit Island in the Cobalt Coastlands region, but only after players have reached story mission #22.

Heatran may have the edge when it comes to stats, but Hisuian Arcanine being a Fire / Rock-type makes it an excellent counter for other Fire-type Pokemon. It's also a physical attacker rather than a special one, allowing it to utilize devastating Fire-type attacks like Flare Blitz and Raging Fury. What's more, it's effectively a brand new Pokemon and can be obtained much earlier on in the story than Heatran can. Players should aim for a Lonely or Naughty nature where possible to further emphasize the Pokemon's strengths.

How to Get Hisuian Arcanine in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Hisuian Arcanine evolves from Hisuian Growlithe after the latter is exposed to a Fire Stone. Players can get their hands on one of these evolution stones at the Item Exchange in Jubilife Village, inside space-time distortions, or by digging one up with Ursaluna. A Hisuian Growlite can be found in either the Windbreak Stand or Veilstone Cape areas of the Cobalt Coastlands.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
