Summary
- Paradox Pokemon are official Gen 9 creatures from alternate universes within the multiverse, resonating with the community.
- HertzBurst redesigns the Ralts and Kirlia as realistic Paradox Pokemon, balancing original aesthetics with a mechanical twist.
- Future core-series Pokemon games are unlikely to feature full Paradox Pokemon families, but surprises are always possible.
An artist from the Pokemon community with a love for Iron Valiant has redesigned Ralts and Kirlia to imagine what they might look like as pre-evolutions to the Paradox Pokemon. Iron Valiant is just one of many Paradox Pokemon exclusive to the Pokemon Violet version, but it has become a popular favorite among Pokemon fans due to the creature being something of a mechanical fusion between Gardevoir and Gallade - two powerful Psychic-types that are widely beloved in their own right.
To the uninitiated, Paradox Pokemon may at first appear to be completely fanmade designs that wildly reimagine what certain Pokemon look like. Strange as they may look, though, Paradox Pokemon are official creatures introduced in the Gen 9 games. As the term suggests, their origins are a little difficult to fathom, but in short, they're alternate-universe Pokemon that hail from different timelines within the Pokemon multiverse. This explains their unusual designs, which resonate so greatly with the Pokemon community that countless artists have designed their own unofficial Paradox variants of their favorite creatures over the years.
Pokemon Fan Creates Hyper-Realistic Pallet Town in Unreal Engine 5
One Pokemon fan shows off what a realistic version of a classic Gen 1 town would look like by recreating the location in Unreal Engine 5.
Virtually every memorable member of the Pokedex has been recreated as a Paradox Pokemon by fan artists at this point, though a renowned artist known online as HertzBurst has recently shared their own Paradox redesigns of the Ralts family. The concept behind this particular project seems to have been to create realistic Paradox counterparts to Ralts and Kirlia with an aesthetic that matches Iron Valiant, an actual Paradox Pokemon that fans can encounter in Pokemon Violet. Although these robotic designs weren't given specific names of their own, they look incredible and perfectly strike the balance between the Pokemon's original appearances and the alien Paradox aesthetic.
Future Pokemon Games Featuring Full Paradox Pokemon Families Is Unlikely
This isn't the first time Pokemon fans have created Paradox Pokemon variants of entire evolution families - a perfect opportunity for ambitious artists, considering that Paradox Pokemon can't actually evolve or breed and lay eggs. It remains an open question whether Paradox Pokemon will ever make much of an official return to the core-series Pokemon games, or whether they'll suffer a similar fate to Gen 7's Ultra Beasts. Given their unique nature and the lore reasons behind their presence in the Gen 9 games, it's hard to imagine them playing any major role in future titles, despite their popularity among fans.
That said, the Pokemon universe continues to surprise fans when it comes to what's possible, although players shouldn't expect any new Paradox Pokemon from the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A. This game, set to release on October 16 later this year, will feature the return of Mega Evolution, and many in the community are extremely excited to see some of the new Mega Pokemon the game will introduce.
