Pokemon GO has announced the in-game debut of Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta for the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest 2025. Since the Galarian Legendary duo was added to Pokemon GO in 2021, fans have been wondering when they would get their alternate, more powerful Crowned forms.
Although Zacian and Zamazenta have been present in Pokemon GO for quite some time, they are only available in their "Hero of Many Battles" forms. In these states, Zacian is a Fairy-type while Zamazenta is a Fighting-type. However, as seen in Pokemon Sword and Shield, when they change into their Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms, respectively, they become Steel dual-types. For this reason, fans have long asked for these variants to be added to Pokemon GO. It was previously confirmed that the Crowned version of the Legendary duo would debut during the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest 2025. Now, the developers have given more details on how players can obtain them.
May 21 is a Big Day For Pokemon GO Fans
A new seasonal event in Pokemon GO will go live on May 21, and it'll feature the debut of a popular eighth generation Legendary Pokemon.
Pokemon GO has revealed the requirements to change Zacian and Zamazenta into their Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms. To start with, both Zacian and Zamazenta need to know the charged attack Iron Head. Then, starting with the Pokemon GO Fest 2025 event, players can use 30 Candy and 1,000 Crowned Sword Energy or Crowned Shield Energy to change their forms. These new kinds of energies can be earned through five-star Raid Battles or ticketed Special Research during Pokemon GO Fest 2025: Global in late June. Fans who attend the in-person Pokemon GO Fest events in Paris, Jersey City, and Osaka can also gain early access to these resources. Additionally, when the Pokemon become Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta, their charged attacks will automatically become Behemoth Blade and Behemoth Bash, respectively. Once players change their Zacian or Zamazenta’s form once, they no longer need energy to change them again.

The developers also confirmed that Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta can fight in Max Battles, despite not being able to Dynamax or Gigantamax. However, like other Max Pokemon, Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta can level up their charged attacks and unlock Guard and Spirit moves. It is worth noting that Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta cannot be transferred to Pokemon HOME while in these forms.
Crowned Sword Zacian and Crowned Shield Zamazenta aren't the only debuts happening during Pokemon GO Fest 2025. The event will also feature the global release of Skiddo in Pokemon GO, though only through purchasable tickets. Pokemon GO is also close to wrapping up its Might and Mastery season, which ends on June 3.
