A Pokemon GO fan was stunned to experience an encounter with an extremely rare Shiny Nightcap Snorlax. Fellow Pokemon GO players are impressed and a bit envious, considering the odds of getting this Snorlax are pretty low.
Pokemon GO is a mobile game that usually encourages movement and physical activity in order to find and catch Pokemon. Fans all over the world take walks to discover Pokemon, spin Pokestops, and engage in gym battles. While this changed for a time during the COVID-19 pandemic, the game has mostly returned to normal in the years since. However, a special promotion tie-in with Pokemon Sleep, a game that's about getting a good night's rest and meeting new Pokemon in the process, introduced a Nightcap Snorlax in Pokemon GO. With Pokemon Sleep installed and the right accessory, players can unlock Snorlax wearing a nightcap, but a Shiny one is an entirely different matter.

Pokemon GO player b4rto_ shared their good tidings with the game's subreddit. A screenshot shows the nightcap-wearing Snorlax in front of them with the iconic Shiny sparkles appearing over it, denoting it as a rare Shiny Pokemon. While many players now have caught the Nightcap Snorlax, far fewer can claim to have a Shiny version of it, making this discovery quite impressive.
Finding a Shiny Nightcap Snorlax
In order to encounter the Nightcap Snorlax in the first place, players need to not only install and use Pokemon Sleep but also have the Pokemon GO Plus + accessory. This device can be paired to the game and helps players by automatically catching Pokemon while they're walking around and picks up items from nearby Pokestops without having to look at the app. Once players pair the accessory to the games, users have to record their sleep for 28 days. While there are some ways to work around this and catch the Nightcap Snorlax quicker, it takes some time to even get to the encounter.
After that, though, pure luck kicks in. Finding a Shiny like Nightcap Snorlax is a 1/512 chance outside of special events. If the Snorlax is normal on the encounter, it will get locked in that form, meaning players can't just escape and retry it in hopes of getting a Shiny the next time around. If Shiny Pokemon were more common, they wouldn't impress players as much, but there are still some fans who have yet to catch even a regular Shiny of their own. As one might guess, fellow fans are a bit envious of b4rto_'s special Shiny Snorlax.
