As of the time of writing, the big Pokemon GO Wild Area: Global event is ongoing in most places around the world (it starts on November 15 at 10 am local time and ends the following day at 6 pm local time). If you hop into the in-game shop, you can spend $11.99 USD to purchase a ticket for the event, which will grant players access to the event-exclusive Special Research called A Grim Beginning.

This Wild Area 2025 event guide will focus on the branching paths in the 'A Grim Beginning' research and show players the rewards for choosing the Dark route or the Fairy route. Let's get into it.

Dark Path Tasks and Rewards for Pokemon GO: A Grim Beginning

Before going into the Dark-type route tasks and rewards, it's worth noting that the first step for the entire research is the same for all players. After the first step is completed, you will then be given the choice to become an expert on Dark or Fairy-type Pokemon and pick a path.

Here's the first step of the research:

So, Should You Choose the Fairy or Dark-type Path in Pokemon GO?

The good thing about the two paths is that they both end with an encounter with Gigantamax Grimmsnarl, which is the main featured Pokemon for the event. However, the significant difference between the paths is the encounter with Mighty Gardevoir on the Fairy path and the encounter with Mighty Obstagoon on the Dark-type path. Mighty Pokemon are pretty rare and hard to catch, but they're more likely to have higher stats like attack and defense, so it's worth adding them to your roster.

This decision for the special research is really up to you at the end of the day, based on your Pokemon preferences. Also, keep in mind that you can find Mighty Pokemon in the wild, and during this event, specifically from 5:45 to 6 pm local time, Mighty Pokemon will appear more frequently, so be sure to take advantage.
