A Normal-type Generation 7 mon, Yungoos made its way to Niantic's hit mobile game on March 1, 2022, having been introduced as part of the Welcome to Alola event. Its shiny form debuted on the very same day. And though many players have managed to capture one of its alternate variants since then, largely due to the Pokemon GO Yungoos Spotlight Hour that took place in July 2023, its shiny form is normally extremely rare.
Lucky Pokemon GO Player Catches Shiny Yungoos at Trainer Level 7
But shiny hunting is ultimately a game of chance, with some Pokemon GO players thus inevitably getting luckier than others. Reddit user WorseThanJello can attest to that fact, having recently found themselves astonished that their son managed to stumble upon a shiny Yungoos almost immediately after he started playing the game. They opted to immortalize this achievement with a screenshot that shows their son's avatar next to his shiny Yungoos buddy at Trainer Level 7.
WorseThanJello revealed that their son spent years watching them play Pokemon GO before asking for his own account. His adventure got off to an amazing start after no more than 14 total catches, which is how many he had at the time WorseThanJello's screenshot was captured. Some other stats underlining his amazing luck is that he found his first shiny before spinning his first PokeStop or walking 100 meters.
Reflecting on this turn of events, WorseThanJello labeled the achievement as unbelievable, jokingly adding they had grounded their son out of jealousy. Their story adds to the list of impressive achievements accomplished by newcomers to the game. Another such experience was shared just a few weeks back, when a comparably lucky Pokemon GO player stumbled on a shiny Gyarados shortly after embarking on their quest to become the very best, like no one ever was.
Based on crowdsourced player data, the chances of any single Yungoos being shiny outside of promotional events are in the ballpark of 0.235%. That translates to approximately one in 426 encounters yielding an alternate-colored creature. And while the chances of finding such rare mons are hence fairly minuscule, multiple exceedingly lucky Pokemon GO players have previously managed to achieve some astonishing shiny streaks.
