Niantic is joining the April Fools' Day fun by putting on a one-day event in Pokemon GO. April Fowl's Day: Pidgey Pandemonium kicks off on Saturday, April 1, at 1 PM local time and will end six hours later at 7 PM local time. And during this event, players will have an increased chance of finding one of the most basic Pokemon of all time: the gen 1 Normal/Flying-type Pokemon, Pidgey. Not only that, but Pokemon GO players can partake in some Field and Special Research tasks.
Pidgey Pandemonium Field and Special Research Tasks and Rewards
To get it right out of the way, there's one Field Research task during the event that requires players to Transfer 3 Pokemon. The rewards for this are a Pidgey encounter and 3 Poke Balls.
As for the Pidgey Pandemonium Special Research, it'll start to appear in-game around 3 PM local time. There are only steps for the research, and they are as follows:
-
Step 1:
- Catch 10 Pokemon (25 Poke Balls)
- Transfer 10 Pokemon (5 Potions)
-
Make 5 Nice Throws (5 Nanab Berries)
- Total Rewards: 1000 Stardust, Pidgey Encounter, and 5 Razz Berries
-
Step 2:
- Claim Reward (10 Ultra Balls)
- Claim Reward (5 Hyper Potions)
-
Claim Reward (3500 XP)
- Total Rewards: 3000 Stardust, Pidgey Encounter, 15 Pidgey Candy
If any of the research tasks for the Pidgey event aren't popping up, trainers should restart the application to refresh the content.
Can Pidgey be Shiny?
Yes, Pidgey and its evolutions, Pidgeotto and Pidgeot, have shiny versions in Pokemon GO. During this event, there's also a greater chance of finding XXS and XXL Pidgey. Two unlockable medals in the game can only be obtained by catching 500 XXS and XXL Pokemon.
How to Evolve Pidgey
Pokemon GO players can head into their Pokemon storage to evolve their caught Pidgey. It takes 12 Pidgey Candy to evolve into Pidgeotto and then 50 Candy to evolve Pidgeotto into Pidgeot. When players find Pidgey in the wild, they should use Pinap Berries when possible to get more Pidgey Candy at the catch results screen.
Once the April Fool's event ends, Pokemon GO players can look forward to the Spring into Spring event, which kicks off on April 4. Ribombee and Cutiefly will be making their Pokemon GO debut, and some Pokemon will even have cherry blossoms on their head, like the Eevee and Pichu evolution lines.
Pokemon GO is available on mobile devices.
