In Pokemon GO, there are several different kinds of Raids that players can encounter. To find a Raid, you will need to check nearby Gyms in your local area. Any that currently have an ongoing Raid will have the featured Pokemon appearing above them, plus the addition of a timer counting down how long the relevant Raid will remain active.

Here is a list of every different kind of Raid in Pokemon GO:

1-Star Raids: Are the easiest to defeat, and feature more common Pokemon, usually at the first form of an evolution line.
3-Star Raids: These are medium-level in difficulty, featuring first-form Pokemon as well as some middle-staged evolutions.
5-Star Raids: These are the toughest level in difficulty to defeat, featuring final form evolved Pokemon as well as Legendary and Mythical specimens.
Mega Raids: Feature Mega-evolved Pokemon forms. Pokemon captured through these Raids will be able to Mega Evolve.
Shadow Raids: Feature Shadow Pokemon, a dark variant of normal Pokemon with increased power. Shadow Pokemon can also be purified in exchange for Stardust and Candy.

1-Star and 3-Star Raids usually occur through the various in-game events and celebrations that occur and are less individually targeted and prepared for in advance by Trainers. For this reason as well as sheer quantity of featured Pokemon at this level, they have been left off this list.
