Although some players are already busy looking ahead to next month, and the recently announced August Community Day event, there's still a solid week and a half left of July events for Pokemon GO trainers to enjoy. In addition to other ongoing events and activities, a Legendary rotation is right around the corner.

Before the next Pokemon GO 5-star Raid Boss arrives, players still have a few days left to throw down against Moltres. This evening brings another Raid Hour event that will be the perfect opportunity to battle the flaming bird and earn some encounters. Players may already have plenty of Moltres in their collection, but they should keep in mind the Legendary pokemon does have a chance for a shiny encounter currently. In order to maximize the Premier Balls earned and reduce the chance of a wasted Raid Pass, players will want to make sure they head into the fight with a strong counter roster in place.

Moltres is a boss that has been around since the earliest days of the Legendary Battle Raids, but the counter possibilities have evolved a lot since those Gen 1 days. Heading into this fight, trainers should take into consideration that Moltes is a Fire-type, which means the Raid Boss is weak against rock-, electric-, or water-type attacks. That's a long list of weaknesses and will hopefully mean that the vast majority of players can manage to assemble a pretty respectable counter roster.

  • Rhyperior - (Smack Down/Rock Wrecker)
  • Terrakion - (Smack Down/Rock Slide)
  • Tyranitar - (Smack Down/Stone Edge)
  • Gigalith - (Smack Down/Rock Slide)
  • Lycanroc - (Rock Throw/Stone Edge)
  • Aerodactyl - (Rock Throw/Stone Edge)
  • Landorus - (Rock Throw/Rock Slide)
  • Xurkitree - (Spark/Discharge)
  • Zekrom - (Charge Beam/Wild Charge)
  • Kyogre - (Waterfall/Surf)

As always, it's not going to be the end of the world if a player can't assemble the exact recommendations outlined here. The most important things to keep in mind are to head into the battle with enough allies (probably 4 or 5 in this case) and focus on exploiting the boss' weaknesses, while dodging its strengths. It may also be wise to burn through some resources to get the finalized roster in fighting shape. That means spending some Stardust, TMs, Elite TMs, and Candy to ensure that all of the pokemon entering the fight have the right move sets and are powered up enough to take some hits from a Legendary Battle Raid boss.
