Summary

  • Max Raids in Pokemon GO are too hard for many players, as gathering a full party of 40 is nearly impossible.
  • Players struggle due to lack of Remote Raid Passes, varying Pokemon strength, and reported crashes and glitches.
  • Some fans view the high difficulty as a cash grab, requiring special currency to enter raids and potentially leading to in-game shop purchases.

Pokemon GO players have been complaining about the extreme difficulty of the game's Max Raids, especially when they can't get a full party of 39 other players to join in. Max Raids in Pokemon GO make it possible to add massive Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon to players' rosters, but actually defeating and capturing them seems like an insurmountable task for many.

Pokemon Sword and Shield introduced Max Raids in its November 2019 launch, allowing groups of up to four players, or a combination of players and bots, to go to specific points and try to take down and capture Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon of various star ratings. Pokemon GO adopted a similar model for battling and catching giant Pokemon in September 2024 as part of its Max Out season, but publisher/developer Niantic upped the ante tenfold, allowing teams of up to 40 players to participate in a single Max Raid.

Pokemon GO: How to Get Morpeko (& Change Its Forms)

Pokemon GO players are wondering how to get Morpeko as part of the Halloween 2024 event and change its forms.

According to the official Pokemon GO website, "groups of 10-40 Trainers should be able to defeat and catch these formidable Power Spot Bosses." But many players find that any party size number under 40 makes trying to win one of these Max Raids next to impossible. One major issue for a lot of players, especially those in rural and less-populated areas, is that gathering 40 people together to fight in a single raid is just not possible given the number of players in the area, considering that Niantic didn't launch the feature with any options to join the battles with any kind of Remote Raid Pass. Compounding problems, even with a large party, there's no guarantee that all participating players will have a strong Pokemon with compatible attack and defense types, which has left even members of 40-person Max Raid parties frustratingly staring at a boss with a half-filled HP bar at the end of a battle.

Max Raid Battles are Too Hard for Many Pokemon GO Players

This isn't the first time fans of the game have complained about the difficulty of Max Raids. Players have been struggling to complete the challenges for more than a month, with Pokemon GO's Beldum Max Raids in late September proving particularly difficult due to reported crashes and glitches. Entrance to Max Raids also costs a special currency called Max Particles, and while players can collect up to 800 of them each day for free, some fans are looking at the high difficulty as a cash grab, enticing players to buy more particles from the in-game shop so they can continue trying to win.

Frustrated players may still have some hope that things will get better. Niantic has responded to mass player complaints in the past by reducing the difficulty of some of its features, such as making the shiny Galarian birds easier to catch than their non-shiny counterparts by removing their ability to flee from battle.
