Pokemon GO is in the midst of one of its biggest events to date in the form of Throwback Challenge 2020. Each week, Pokemon GO celebrates a different generation of Pokemon, giving players the chance to complete limited-time Special Research tasks and more. While most fans will be focused on completing the Pokemon GO Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto Special Research, there are also regular Johto-themed Field Research tasks to keep in mind as well.
Pokemon GO players can collect these Field Research tasks by spinning PokeStops, and they all guarantee an encounter with a Johto region Pokemon. Needless to say, this marks one of the best opportunities for Pokemon GO players to fully complete their Johto region Pokedex. Johto region Pokemon aren't exactly common in Pokemon GO nowadays outside of events, so fans should definitely take advantage of this opportunity while they can.
Here are all the Pokemon GO Johto Research tasks and rewards.
Pokemon GO Johto Research Tasks and Rewards
Earn a heart with your buddy - Bayleef
Play with your buddy - Totodile
Make 3 Curveball Throws - Noctowl
Catch 3 Normal-type Pokemon - Dunsparce
Use 5 berries to help catch Pokemon - Pineco
Catch 3 Fire-type Pokemon - Quilava
Hatch an egg - Phanpy
While Pokemon GO players will be able to complete a decent chunk of their Pokedex by completing these Johto Research tasks and rewards, they'll definitely want to pay attention to other aspects of the game as well. For example, Pokemon GO players can get the legendary bird Ho-Oh by completing all of the Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto Special Research while it's available, plus there are Johto region Pokemon that are hatching out of 7km eggs right now as well.
Johto Pokemon will continue hatching out of eggs and serving as Field Research rewards until next Friday, May 15 at 1:00pm local time. It's at that point when the Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto event will end and be replaced by a similar event for the Hoenn region. Presumably, the Throwback Challenge 2020: Hoenn event will also include its own set of Field Research tasks for players to complete as well.
There are still some region-exclusive Johto Pokemon that may be keeping Pokemon GO players from fully completing their Pokedex, but this will still be a big step in the right direction. Pokemon GO players should definitely make it a point to catch as many Johto region Pokemon as possible while the event is still live.
Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
