Hoppip Spotlight Hour: Bonuses & Shiny Rates, Explained
Pokemon GO's March 26 Spotlight Hour features the Johtonian Grass/Flying dual-type, Hoppip, and will take place between the hours of 6 PM - 7 PM local time. During this one-hour period, Hoppip will appear much more frequently in the wild, which gives any trainers who are missing this critter from their Pokedex the opportunity to add it to their collection. With Hoppip's improved spawn rates, there is also a better chance of obtaining one with solid IVs, which may make it a contender for certain PvP teams or competitive battling.
Alongside the more frequent appearances of Hoppip, this Spotlight Hour event offers an in-game bonus to any player participating in the event: all Pokemon caught will receive 2x Catch Candy. This is great if you're planning to evolve Hoppip into Skiploom and then Jumpluff. The increased number of Hoppip in the wild will enable you to catch multiple within the hour, stockpiling a collection which you can then transfer for even more Candies. If you find yourself lucky enough to capture a Hoppip with good IVs, then this extra Candy can also come in handy for boosting CP, thus making it even more powerful and further raising its potential as a strong and battle-worthy Pokemon.
Lastly, for some lucky trainers, there may even be an opportunity to catch a shiny variant of Hoppip, as this Pokemon does have a shiny form live in the game. While the chances of encountering a shiny are not raised at all during Spotlight Hour events, the increased spawn rate will give you more opportunities to stumble upon a lucky encounter. It can be estimated that shiny Hoppip has a 1 in 500 chance of appearing, as indicated by user data.
