Feel that cold chill in the air? It's finally time for the Harvest Festival in Pokemon GO. This fall-themed event kicks off today (October 10) and goes until October 16 at 8 pm local time (the same day that Pokemon Legends: Z-A comes out, coincidentally).
What makes this event super special is that it introduces not one, but two new Pokemon into the mobile game. Players will get the chance to add Dipplin and Hydrapple into their Pokedex, which are two forms of Applin that debuted in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet' s expansions.
In this guide, we'll show you everything going on with the Harvest Festival (like its Research Tasks, Collection Challenges, etc.), and also how to actually evolve Applin into Dipplin and Hydrapple in Pokemon GO. You may think you know how it works, but the evolution process differs from the Scarlet/Violet method.

What are the Event Bonuses for the Harvest Festival Event in Pokemon GO?
Apples!
There are three event bonuses for the Harvest Festival for free-to-play users; however, if you opt to go to the shop and purchase the Candy Apple ticket for $5, you'll earn two extra bonuses:
|
Harvest Festival Bonuses |
|---|
|
2x Candy for catching Pokemon with Pinap Berries and Silver Pinap Berries |
|
Increased chance to encounter Shiny Pumpkaboo and Shiny Smoliv |
|
Increased chance for apples to appear at PokeStops with an active Mossy Lure Module |
|
Paid Bonuses |
|
2x Mossy Lure Module Duration |
|
Increased chance to get Berries from PokeStops. |
You're going to want to have Mossy Lure Modules set on PokeStops when you can, since you'll need those to collect Syrupy Apples to evolve Applin into Dipplin. If you pay for the ticket, having that double duration for the module will come in handy.
How to Evolve Applin into Dipplin (and Evolve Dipplin into Hydrapple) in Pokemon GO
To evolve Applin into Dipplin, Pokemon GO trainers will need 200 Applin Candy (it's a lot!) And 20 Syrupy Apples. Once you have Dipplin, you can evolve it into Hydrapple with a whopping 400 Applin Candy and by also catching seven Dragon-type Pokemon with Dipplin set as your walking buddy.
Having Dipplin or Applin as your walking buddy will give you more Applin Candy, so make sure to do this as soon as you catch one of the apple Pokemon.

You'll see it below, but the reason for the Pumpkaboo encounter rewards is that the Pumpkin Patch Collection Challenge requires you to find four sizes of Pumpkaboo (Small, Average, Large, Super).
Harvest Festival Collection Challenges in Pokemon GO
Pumpkin Patch, Honeycomb Harvest, & Olive Orchard
- To complete the Pumpkin Patch Collection challenge, you will need to catch the four sizes of Pumpkaboo. As a reward, you'll get 5000 Stardust, a Mossy Lure Module, and an encounter with Applin (completing the Field Research tasks can help with this).
- To complete the Honeycomb Harvest Collection Challenge in Pokemon GO, catch a Combee and evolve it into Vespiquen. However, before you feed it 50 Combee Candy, make sure your Combee is female (there are no male Vespiquens!). You will get 2500 Stardust, an Applin encounter, and a Syrupy Apple.
- And last but not least, to complete the Olive Orchard Collection Challenge, you'll have to get Smoliv, evolve it into Dolliv, and then evolve it into Arboliva. You'll need 25 Candy for the first evolution and 100 for the second. The reward for this challenge is 2500 Stardust, an Applin encounter, and another Syrupy Apple.
Can Applin, Dipplin, and Hydrapple Be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
Not Yet
When Applin came to Pokemon GO earlier this year, it didn't have a shiny version. And even now, with Dipplin and Hydrapple added, unfortunately, none have shiny versions available in the mobile game.
What to Focus on During the Harvest Festival 2025
Your main goal now that Dipplin and Hydrapple are in the game are to simply get as much Applin Candy and Syrupy Apples as you can! Take advantage of the bonus PokeStop apples and the Mossy Lure Module length extension (for those who pick up the Paid ticket).
You also should set Applin or Dipplin as your Buddy Pokemon ASAP, so you can start collecting extra Candy. You'll need 600 total for the two evolutions, so get to collecting!
