Pokemon GO Fossil Cup Great League Edition is running from Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 1 PM to Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 1 PM Local Time. Here are the rules for this mini-cup:

Only Pokemon with 1500 or lower can enter.
Only Water, Rock, and Steel-type Pokemon can participate.

During the same time span, a new Great League will be available, following the standard rules of Great League:

Pokemon must be 1500 CP or lower to enter Great League battles.

Those who have a 1500 Pokemon primed for this league can now take it out for a spin and beat through the ranks of this Cup, to earn lots of rewards that might include Stardust, Encounters with exclusive Pokemon, and Rare Candy/Rare Candy XL (which are always a welcome sight). Following the mentioned restrictions, players should pick some of the recommended Pokemon for Great League that meet those conditions.

The following attacks have suffered modifications during this season: Ember (energy generation +), Bug Bite (power increased to 4), Fury Cutter (power increased to 3), Acid (energy generation +), Bullet Punch (power increased to 8), Metal Sound (power increased to 5), Double Iron Bash (power increased to 55), Doom Desire (power increased to 80), Crunch (chances to lower defense decreased), Wrap (how has a 100% chance to decrease defense), Parabolic Charge (energy cost decreased, 100% chance to increase user's defense).

Gastrodon - Water/Ground (Mud Slap, Earth Power, Body Slam) - Nearly unbeatable, deals tons of damage with Mud Slap/Earth Power combo. Fast Charger.
Jellicent - Water/Ghost (Hex, Surf, Shadowball) - Greatly effective, deals tons of damage, and can spam. Decent Closer.
Registeel - Steel (Lock On, Focus Blast, Zap Cannon) - Good coverage, bulky, has Zap Cannon to deal with pesky Water-types. Great closer.
