Earlier this year, Pokemon GO took things to the max with the introduction of Dynamax Battles that occured at Power Spots around the world. Now, things are about to get even bigger with the official introduction of Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
The official Gigantamax event will kick off with battles against Gigantamax versions of classic starter Pokemon, with the possibility of more Gigantamax Pokemon coming during the ongoing two-part Halloween 2024 event. Players who defeat these Gigantamax Pokemon in battle will be able to claim these powerful creatures for themselves.
Pokemon GO Gigantamax Event Details
At a press conference attended by The Best War Games, the Pokemon GO development team officially revealed that Gigantamax Pokemon will be entering the game on October 26. Like Dynamax Pokemon, they will appear at Power Spots, where they can be battled using only other Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokemon that the player has previously caught.
Gigantamax Raid Battles promise to be Pokemon GO's largest and most challenging yet. Up to 40 players can participate in a Gigantamax battle at a time, and a minimum of ten is recommended to take on these powerful foes. However, the reward will be great: the caught Pokemon will be able to Gigantamax and know G-Max moves, making it a powerful ally for future Dynamax and Gigantamax battles. In addition, leaving a Gigantamax Pokemon at a Power Spot can potentially cause Dynamax Pokemon to spawn at the spot for players to fight and catch.
Gigantamax Introduction Event Schedule
Three Pokemon have been chosen to introduce Gigantamaxing to Pokemon GO: the classic Generation 1 starters. Gigantamax Blastoise, Gigantamax Charizard, and Gigantamax Venusaur will be available to battle from October 26 at 10AM local time to October 27 at 8PM local time. The Pokemon GO team have confirmed that, because this event is only two days long, each of the three Pokemon will spawn multiple times per day at various Power Spots around the world.
Each of these Gigantamax Pokemon will come with a powerful G-Max Move. First introduced in Sword and Shield, these attacks are unique to individual Pokemon. Blastoise can use the Water-type move G-Max Cannonade, Charizard can use the Fire-type move G-Max Wildfire, and Venusaur can use the Grass-type move G-Max Vine Lash. These will be even more powerful than many of the Charged Attacks already available to use in Pokemon GO.
The Pokemon GO Halloween Event Continues
In addition to the introduction of Gigantamaxing, the two-part Pokemon GO Halloween 2024 event is still ongoing. The first part of the event, which puts the spotlight on the form-changing Morpeko, will run from October 22 to October 28, concluding just after the introduction of the Gigantamax starter trio. During this event, Morpeko can be earned via Timed Research and Field Research tasks as well as a reward for winning Pokemon GO League Battles.
The contents of the second event have not yet been officially revealed, but players can expect lots of spooky surprises.
