Pokemon GO has just kicked off its latest season, Rising Heroes, and the festivities have not slowed down. The next event to come to the mobile game is the Festival of Colors, with 2023 being its second celebrated year. Players can earn special rewards for completing research tasks, and they can catch Bruxish and Mega Medicham for the first time in Pokemon GO.

Festival of Colors Start and End Date

Festival of Colors kicks off on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 10:00 am local time and will end on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 8 pm local time.

Before we get into the list of Pokemon that appear more frequently during the event and the raids and such, let's go over the most important part: the tasks and their rewards.

Festival of Colors Field Research Tasks and Rewards

For the Oricorio encounter rewards, there are four types that can be battled; however, the type of Oricorio players run into depends on their actual real-world location:

  • Balle Style Oricorio - Europe, the Middle East, and Africa
  • Pom-Pom Style Oricorio - The Americas
  • Pa’u Style Oricorio - African, Asian, Pacific, and Caribbean Islands
  • Sensu Style Oricorio - The Asia-Pacific Region

And here are the tasks:

  • Catch 15 Pokemon - Reward: Alolan Grimer Encounter (can be shiny)
  • Catch 5 Different Species of Pokemon - Reward: Castform Encounter (can be Normal, Sunny, Rainy, or Snowy) (can be shiny)
  • Catch 8 Different Species of Pokemon - Reward: Burmy (can be Sandy, Trash, or Plant) (can be shiny)
  • Catch 10 Different Species of Pokemon - Reward: Oricorio (can be Balle, Pom-Pom, Pa'u, or Sensu, depending on the location of the player) (cannot be shiny)

Collection Challenge

Besides the Research Tasks for Festival of Colors 2023, there is also a collection challenge. By completing all the tasks below, players will earn 20000 XP and a Lure Module:

  • Catch Koffing
  • Catch Stunky
  • Catch Natu
  • Catch Wobbuffet
  • Catch Shuckle

  • Catch Bruxish

What are the Event Bonuses for the Festival of Colors?

Until the event ends, Pokemon GO players' Lure Modules will last for three hours. Friendship levels will also increase twice as fast, making it easier to evolve certain Pokemon. And last but not least, Smeargle may pop up when players take snapshots in-game, with a chance of a shiny version appearing.

Can Bruxish be Shiny?

Unfortunately, the dual Water/Psychic-type Pokemon, Bruxish, does not have a shiny variant in Pokemon GO at this time.
