Pokemon GO is kicking off the final month of the year with a series of exciting events, and one of the tasks players need to do as part of a quest is to exchange a gift with the recently added NPC, Mateo.

One of the first special research quests in Pokemon GO as part of the Season of Timeless Travels is A Route to New Friendships, and it focuses on the gift exchange feature that was introduced alongside Mateo. There are tons of exciting rewards up for grabs, ranging from Pokemon such as Lillipup, Wooloo, and Hisuian Sneasel to Poke Balls, Stardust, and more. However, to get the Hisuian Sneasel, players need to exchange three gifts with Mateo, which can be a bit tricky to complete since it is a newly added feature.

How To Find Mateo (& What To Do If He Doesn't Spawn)

The first step towards completing the task is finding Mateo himself. Thankfully, that is pretty easy to do. All players need to do is start a new route and keep following it, and Mateo will be waiting to greet them at the end of the route.

Some players have reported that Mateo didn't spawn after reaching the end of the route, but restarting the game seems to address this. Additionally, tapping the Poke Stop or Gym also seems to trigger the encounter for those who are unable to get it. That being said, some players were still unable to get the encounter.

How To Exchange A Gift With Mateo

Once players have found Mateo, they can follow the given steps to exchange a gift with Mateo:

Interact with Mateo and click on the Exchange Gift option.
Now, players will need to choose the gift they need to exchange with Mateo. This gift needs to be one of the gifts obtained from the Poke Stops in the route. Players can simply choose the gift automatically selected in the game or choose one manually.
After pressing the Send button, the gift gets exchanged, and players receive a new gift.

It should be noted that players can only exchange a maximum of one gift per day, so players will need to repeat this process each day for three days to complete the task.
