Pokemon takes inspiration from real-life cultures, mythology, and occasionally people in real life. Released in Generation 6 is Pumpkaboo, a pumpkin-shaped Pokemon that comes in different sizes — literally. Now, Pokemon GO has added Pumpkaboo and its evolution.

Pokemon GO has Pumpkaboo debuting alongside Phantump in the Halloween Mischief Part 2: Ghoulish Pals. This extends to their evolved forms: Gourgeist and Trevenant. For Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist, players must complete a collection challenge, and it's relatively easy.

Pumpkaboo and Phantump's Halloween Mischief Part 2: Ghoulish Pals event lasts until 10/31/2021 at 8:00 pm. This gives players a little bit of time to complete the event. The Collection Challenge will have players collecting different-sized Pumpkaboo. To access the Collection Challenge, simply tap the binoculars icon in the "Today View" screen.

As a species, Pumpkaboo is a Grass/Ghost-type. What makes it unique are its different forms. Despite appearing first, Pumpkaboo's forms are similar to the Fairy-type Alcremie. Pumpkaboo comes in four different sizes, which happens to have an effect on Pumpkaboo's base stats.

For the Pumpkaboo Collection Challenge, players are required to catch all 4 sizes. These are:

  • Small
  • Average
  • Large
  • Super Size

Like in core Pokemon games, the Small and Average Pumpkaboo will be much more common than the Large and Super Size ones. To increase the chances of finding Large and Super Size Pumpkaboo, use Lures or Incense to spawn them. This will save precious time if the player doesn't have the best luck.

Additionally, Pumpkaboo can also be found in Tier 1 Raids.

Obtaining Gourgeist

Just like the core games, Pumpkaboo can evolve into Gourgeist via trade in Pokemon GO. Thankfully, because of Pokemon Candy, trainers can bypass trading and instead give Pumpkaboo 200 Candy. The best way to rack up Pokemon Candy is to catch Pokemon of the same species. Players may have a lot of Pumpkaboo in their PCs, but this is the only way to get Gourgeist if they can't trade Pumpkaboo with someone.

For those who can trade, keep in mind that this trade can't be remote. Trades also require Stardust to initiate if the Friendship Level between one trainer and another isn't high enough. Both trainers should each trade Pumpkaboos because once a Pokemon is sent, it can't be traded back.

Decide which option works best. If players can be patient and don't mind catching Pumpkaboos, then getting Gourgeist through Pokemon Candy may be the most accessible route to go.
