Hyper Training is a popular feature in Pokemon GO, that acts as a powerful way to improve your Pokemon’s stats. Along with the addition of Gold Bottle Cap during the Ancients Recovered event, you now have the chance to boost a Pokemon’s IVs for Attack, Defense, and HP, taking them from good to perfect.
However, unlike traditional power-ups, Hyper Training isn’t automatic. You need to put in effort over time and complete stat-specific tasks after activating the process with a Gold Bottle Cap. So, to help use Hyper Training, this guide breaks down everything you need to know about how Hyper Training works in Pokemon GO and how to make the most of your Bottle Caps.
What Is Hyper Training in Pokemon GO?
In Pokemon GO, Hyper Training is a stat-enhancing mechanic that lets you permanently improve a Pokemon’s Attack, Defense, and HP IVs. This is done using a rare item called the Gold Bottle Cap, which kickstarts the process. Once used, the Pokemon enters a training regimen that involves completing a series of tasks, each for a specific stat.
A Pokemon needs to be at least a Good Buddy to qualify for Hyper Training. Once eligible, you can select the desired stats to train, use a Gold Bottle Cap, and then begin completing the objectives to finish the training.
How To Hyper Train In Pokemon GO
To begin Hyper Training in Pokemon GO, you must first use a Gold Bottle Cap on a Pokemon that has Good Buddy status or higher. After activation, you’ll be asked to choose which IV stats among Attack, Defense, and HP that you want to enhance. For each stat, you must complete a specific task tied to that attribute:
- Attack: Battle with the Pokemon while it's set as your Buddy.
- Defense: Interact with your Buddy through play, exploration, and catching Pokemon.
- HP: Explore with your Buddy by spinning PokeStops and earning candy.
Once the training begins, you’ll have 365 days to complete all the required tasks. The number of tasks will depend on how far off your Pokemon is from the maximum IV. For example, training a 13 IV stat to 15 will be easier than going from 0 to 15. When completed, a visual indicator will show on the Pokemon's appraisal screen, letting you know it has been Hyper Trained.
What Are Gold Bottle Caps in Pokemon GO?
Gold Bottle Caps are one-time use items introduced during the Ancients Recovered event in Pokemon GO. These items are essential for starting the Hyper Training process and affect all three IV stats—Attack, Defense, and HP—at once. However, they are extremely rare and currently only obtainable through specific event rewards.
To activate Hyper Training, the Gold Bottle Cap must be used on an eligible Pokemon. Once used, that Pokemon becomes locked into the training path, and you’ll need to complete all tasks within one year or the process expires.
You can’t remove or reuse the Bottle Cap after it's activated, so you should double-check before choosing the right Pokemon.
What Are Silver Bottle Caps?
Though not yet available in Pokemon GO at the time of writing, Silver Bottle Caps are part of the main series’ Hyper Training system. Unlike Gold Bottle Caps, silver ones let you enhance only a single IV stat.
If implemented in the same way, Silver Bottle Caps in Pokemon GO will let you fine-tune one specific stat rather than all three, providing more control over a Pokemon’s build. This would be particularly useful for competitive PvP setups where stat spreads matter.
How To Get Gold Bottle Caps in Pokemon GO
Currently, the only way to get a Gold Bottle Cap in Pokemon GO is by purchasing and completing the GO Pass Deluxe: Ancients Recovered. This premium pass includes a set of tasks, and upon completion, players are awarded one Gold Bottle Cap. There are some limitations to note:
- Gold Bottle Caps are exclusive to the event and cannot be obtained through standard gameplay like PokeStops or raids.
- These items expire on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 11:59 pm local time, so you must use them before then.
- They are single-use only, and there is no confirmed way to get more after the event ends.
Because of this, make sure you use your Gold Bottle Cap wisely. Choose a Pokemon that is already close to perfect IVs, ideally one that is viable in both PvP and raid battles to maximize its usefulness.
