Unlike the Jungle Cup, where the Pokemon had to be of a specific type, there is no such requirement for the Master League. On top of that, the CP restrictions that apply to Great and Ultra League have been removed completely, which means players can use literally any Pokemon they want. While this might sound like good news, it makes things incredibly competitive. Therefore, it is crucial to use Pokemon that are extremely well-balanced — not only from a typing perspective, but also stat-wise.

XL Candies will be crucial for the Master League teams, as these Pokemon are required to be at level 50, considering the high stakes of the field. When it comes to choosing the team itself, it is crucial that players select Pokemon that complement each other. For instance, Origin Form Palkia is by far the most popular choice in Master League as per the current meta, but players should include Pokemon like Solgaleo, Xerneas, Therian Forme Landorus, Ho-Oh, or Origin Form Dialga in their team to support its weaknesses against Dragon and Fairy-type Pokemon.

Solgaleo, for example, is resistant to both Dragon and Fairy types. Meanwhile, the likes of Xerneas can punish Dragon-type Pokemon. ​​​​​​​Alongside Origin Forme Palkia, Solgaleo is one of those Pokemon that players should definitely have in their team, as it is effective against several other commonly used Pokemon.

One recurrent theme players will find is the abundance of Dragon-type and Ground-type Pokemon. These types are well-balanced both offensively and defensively, which makes them extremely useful. Ground-type attacks are effective against five other types, making the likes of Groudon and Therian Forme Landorus excellent choices. Not to forget, players also get the best of both worlds with Zygarde Complete Form, since it has a unique Dragon and Ground-type matchup.

It is crucial to note that while Shadow Pokemon usually dominate raids, they might not be great options for the Master League, apart from Dragonite, Mewtwo, and Groudon. While the higher offensive stat is good to have, the Master League demands Pokemon to be strong defensively as well, which is where the Shadow Pokemon might struggle.
